Akai 1730D - SS Reel-to-reel

I just tested it...works perfectly, sounds remarkably clean and mother of god does it sound niiiiiiice.

I love analogue. :D

I've thought of getting an old analogue tape recorder.

What kind of stuff are you recording with it?
Project-K
I miss tapes. :(

As a medium for bought music? I was glad when CDs replaced them, personally.

I'm interested in experimenting with tapes for musical purposes, though.
Project-K
Not just as a medium for commercial music. Tapes just had so much more soul. Or maybe I'm just nostalgic about the early 90s.

haha, very cool. I love that warm analogue sound of those things!

Meh, they were pretty annoying to me as far as just listening to music. I think I prefer vinyl most of all.

This is getting connected to my Protools setup. Mostly acoustic, rock, some jazzy/bluesey stuff, some metal here and there. I do post production as well. I've thought about making some house, but never seem to start. Besides, I'm short on synths.

As of now I see myself using it for tracking vocals and guitars before dumping them to my DAW, and possibly as a medium to warm up mixes. I need to clean and degauss the heads before I do anything though.

In all honesty, I just bought it because it looks cool and will look cooler in the studio with all the digital ...I bought it from some guy on Craigslist who had never used it and didn't know if it worked. I talked him out to $100, delivered.

Some people just don't know what they have...

After having to work with those in school, I never want to touch one ever again. Toy of the devil.
