I dunno about the "doofus" comment considering police specifically hideaway in places so that they are undetected which yields them the maximum amount of violations. It is their job to nab you. in most highways you move as the traffic moves and depending on the time of the day/date/weather the average speed on the highways can run as high as 120. Making everyone a "doofus".

No, actually, because driving at 120 when the traffic is moving at 120 is safe and won't get you pulled over. I've been cruising at 120 several times with a police car right behind me and not gotten any trouble about it. Once you hit 130 it's very likely you'll get nabbed.

Yes, it's true that cops hide, obviously, but also consider that some animal might jump out from the same spot; if you're driving too fast to see them before you get in their visual range (they can't pull you over unless they actually see you speeding) then you're driving too fast, period.

Also, be careful about slamming the brakes when you see a cruiser. If anyone is behind you, you could get a much worse ticket for careless driving or obstructing traffic. Or, if it's actually the cop who's behind you, they're going to be seriously pissed off.

maybe its because of the work I do but I can't stand it when people don't own up to their actions when they know they were in the wrong.

heres how the conversation went...

*roll down window*
me: hi occifer
cop: hi. do you know how fast you were going?
me: nope. i wasnt paying attention.
cop: i got you going 170.
me: oh.
cop: drivers license and registration please

*get my wallet and give him the stuff*

cop: whats your driving record like?
me: i think i have one speeding ticket for 10 over and a bunch of parking tickets.
cop: are you sure?
me: im pretty sure.
cop: i hope you're not lying.

*cop goes to his car for about 15 minutes*
while he was walking back to me car i was looking through my side mirror and noticed he had nothing in his hand other than my license and ownership

cop: here is your stuff. you were not lying. lets try and keep your driving record clean. drive slow. have a good night.

Because that is just how people work.

What type of work are you in anyway?

Don't know much about them, but here's what you do.

If you get caught with a Radar detector, they confiscate it and I believe you get a fine. Or sometimes they make you drive over it, which sucks lol.
And it definitely would suck if you spent $1,000+ on a decent one.

If you are spending lots of money on a radar detector, make sure you buy a cheap one for like $50 and always keep that in the car somewhere.

If you have a radar detector, and get caught, make sure you take your expensive one and switch it for the cheap one before the cop gets to your car. That way, if they do confiscate your radar, they'll take/destroy the cheap one, and you'll still have your expensive one for future use.

Great idea, I will remember that one
i used to have a cheap one and even that saved my butt a few times
Best one i hear is the valentine one or The Escort
