production studio needs more sub folders, too many repetitve and usless threads -- we need atleast 3 sub folders because i'm about to walk away from this thing

suggestions:

- Getting Started (What's the Best.... ??)
- Sound Design
- Synths /FX

any other ideas are welcome but this section use to be so much more : /

its been like this for a while just learn to ignore alot of threads. i havent posted in here in months because its the same questions i was posting about 2 years ago.

i dont agree. its not very much action here so if we divided it would be even less. i think we should mix promotion + studio and also mix dj booth + dj promotion, generaly there are too many folder in all forums imo.

:wtf:

No way. The "promotion" threads (for both DJs and producers) would totally crowd out any production topics, since the promotion forums are a lot more active than this one.

I think that Zombie0729 has a pretty good idea. What would be best is to add a section, something like "FAQs, Recommendations, and Technical Difficulties."

The new section could contain all of the "What sequencer / synth / effects should I get?" and "Is my speaker / synth / computer broken?" and "How do I set up [insert program / piece of equipment here]?" kind of topics that have been clogging up this forum.

Once that was set up, the main production forum could focus on the real "meat" of making tracks -- composition, arrangement, synthesis and effects, mixing, and mastering -- instead of being flooded with people asking what synths and speakers to buy.

:)

its just more concise, just because traffic isn't huge dosn't mean it shouldn't be organized. how nice would it be to not have to scroll thru 30 newbie threads 'whats the best... ' and have actual threads(even if its only 1 a week) of sound design/patch ideas/synth techniques whatever

I agree completely (see post above yours).

I don't care how "fast" the forum seems to be moving, as long as the topics are decent and not the kind of fluff that's been crowding the place lately.

A lot of these topics aren't actually about making music, but simply people waiting on everybody else to tell them the "right" tools to get. That's what I was poking fun at with my "Equipment Recommendation Forum" thread.

I actually think the forum genres are correct - I think some of the problem lies in the lack of supervision from mods.

I'm not saying the mods are lazy, moreso that the web admins should set stronger guidelines as to what should be regulated and how.

Threads like "Paul Oakenfold is a douchbag" (etc.) do not belong in the production or DJ Booth forum, they should be in the general discussion forum.

Also, a lot of threads/subjects have been repeated so often that long time users aren't bothering to use the forums anymore (myself somewhat included). Again, the mods should be telling the noobs to use the search function, and useless threads should be closed.

I only suggest this as I am and have been a member of other forums (even totally unrelated to music/tech) and the ones that always thrive (as well as being useful) are the ones that manage to find the balance of encouraging new/uneducated users, whilst keeping the interest of the more seasoned.

It is really in the interest of the mods/owners to manage the content of this forum, and I know along with others who have pointed this out over the last year or so (there have been several threads on this) that the quality s slipping.

We don't need any more subforums, we just need an active mod. Just one. Please.
MrJiveBoJingles
What would a more active mod do, though? Simply delete all the newbie "recommendation" threads that have been clogging the place up?

I guess that's okay if you don't mind pissing lots of people off...

You can't please everyone, no matter what you do. All a mod would need to do would be to keep the FAQ/tutorials up to date and point the newbies to them when needed.

If we all hate the "recommendation" threads who else would visit the forums but the newbies? That wouldn't help anyone either.

No matter what you do, someone's going to be pissed off.

+1 - spot on, and if you're going to piss off anyone it should be the noobs that can't be bothered to click the search button.

But having said that I don't even think noobs will be pissed off. Some just don't think to use the search. If a mod were to intervene and close a thread with directions of where to find the obvious info, I think this would be a more efficient way of learning - I know sites that have done this and it really encourages a higher level of education amongst their members.

Are you kidding!? We need MORE useless and repetitive threads! Here's the regimen I'm planning for the next week:

  1. What studio monitors should I buy?
  2. What monitors should I buy for under $50?
  3. What monitors should I buy for under $50 that will enable me to make tracks like DJ Tiesto?
  4. What monitors should I buy for under $50 that will enable me to make tracks like Paul Van Dyk?
  5. Do I really need to spend more than $50 on monitors if I want to make tracks like Paul Van Dyk or DJ Tiesto?
  6. What monitors should I buy for under $25 that can make me sound like Markus Schulz?
  7. What's the best synth to use for trance?
  8. What's the best effect to use for trance?
  9. What's the best kick to use for trance?
  10. What's the best drum pack to use for trance?
  11. What's the best synth to use for progressive?
  12. How can I get just the vocals out of a track so I can remix it?
  13. How can I get everything except the vocals out of a track so I can remix it?
  14. How do I remix?
  15. What's the best synth to use for remixing?
  16. Do I need to use the same monitors as the original producer if I want to do a remix?
  17. Jessica Alba Nude Pix!!!!1111one
  18. Where do I find acapellas?
  19. My track stutters, what should I do?
  20. My track gets distorted, what should I do?
  21. What soundcard do I need to buy?
  22. What soundcard should I buy if I only have $12 to spend?
  23. What soundcard does Ferry Corsten use?
  24. I bought a new soundcard and my tracks still don't sound like Ferry Corsten, what should I do?
  25. Is it better to use hardware or software?
  26. Should I use FL Studio or Ableton Live?
  27. Should I get a Virus TI or a JP8000?
  28. Can I use a Virus with FL Studio?
  29. Can somebody send me tips on how to produce in Ableton?
  30. So I made this totally awesome melody and its 6 seconds long and can somebody finish it for me or tell me what to do next?
  31. And what labels should I send to once it's done?

I'm going to be posting these on a regular rotation, 5 per day. With any luck, somebody will show me how to make my Gouryella remix in 5 minutes or less spending only 9 cents and get it released on Global Underground. It can't be that hard, honestly.
