would you recommend the pre-paid club-pass? how expensive is a regular night out...generally speaking? |
HELL YES!! I was pissing money on door/cover charges, and I never like to stay in one spot all night. I'd get the pass, if you are going out. I spent $40-$150 on most nights clubbing (I usually didn't drink that much, danced, and chatted)
I know that I spent lots on food, but if you're careful, and not eat out all the time (like I did), you can still do it "cheap". I think all restaurants have to post their menu outside, so you can check prices.I'd rent a car and go to the city of Cancun and groceries, if you are not going to do an "all-inclusive" at the resort. |

It's $40-45 cover and that includes bottle service and all you can drink at some clubs.
They have Hooters, Chris Ruth's Steakhouse, Hard Rock Cafe etc. and they all run for the same prices like in Toronto. Booze is really cheap outside the resort, if you wanted to buy some. I'd say Varadero is cheaper as cover is 10 bucks and drinks are like 2 cuc's, but the at the same time if you're a hardcore drinker than all the clubs in Cancun might work better being all you can drink. It certainly reduces alot of the wait time.
I'd say the clubs overall are better than Varadero's..much bigger and nicer looking. |

when I said Riu Cancun's beach sucked, thats because its full of rocks and the sandy party is really lacking, its a tiny beach. You can get your feet injured inside the water because there's some places where the ocean floor is full of holes. Plus its dirty, seen plenty of glass pieces coming from the ocean:wtf: If you're going to Riu Cancun, stick to the pools!
The beach at Varadero was unbeatable... Cancun isn't even close to it. Went to Blau Varadero in 2007, food isn't as good as in Cancun, but everything else is better (minus the nightlife). |

serious eh, that's exactly what we were looking for, a "cheap" vacation. I was in the states over xmas and i'm heading to norway after mexico, so I really don't intend on spending a lot of money down there.

Cancun is really expensive, its more expensive than in Canada for almost everything tourist related. Bus boys expect to be tipped alot of money or you can forget your "all you can drink" drinks. |

I agree that the beach overall generallly is better in Cuba. The beach in Varadero was a lot wider and longer, with clearer water and whiter sand. Not to put Cancun's beach down at the Riu Cancun, but it's not as good. The Riu on the far left side is a bit rocky but not on the far right...but the far left area is more "hype" as it's nearer to the main infinity pool. There's some coral there too so if it's any consolotion you can see little fishes swimming around.
Overall, Cancun kills Cuba. I found too many Cubans trying to hustle you for everything. Cancun does it as well off the resort. they try selling you anything and forthright about it but they at least HAVE what you want. ANd you can get the excursions cheaper off the resort too. Varadero DOES have the better beach though, but the Cancun clubs are newer and sleeker and bigger, and if you stay at the Riu Cancun, everything is nearby. |

I don't agree with the resort staff expecting tips. It only happened to me on one occaision when a security guard wanted money. But otherwise no one asked for any tips. The staff was really great and didn't expect anything. Maybe it had to do with the resort you stayed at... |

how far is Riu Cancun from Ria Caribe? more importantly, what are the major differences, if any?
also, in terms of attractions, aside from the clubs and the parties, what would you guys recommend? the ruins sounds great! Are there any worthwhile rainforests to check out? pretty much: what are the absolute MUST things we should do/see while we're in Cancun?
thanks guys:gsmile: |
You HAVE TO go to Excaret...
It's a nature park kinda place...
Has a great lazy river and tons of other stuff...
And the evening show is amazing...
Chichen Itza...yah it's a really long day but an incredible place and how often can you see one of the wonders of the world... |

when you talk about the quality of the beach, should I be expecting a deserted beach? or are there still gonna be plenty of people on the beach? nearby beaches?
also, someone mentioned the passes that adnan media offers - I did a quick read @ http://www.adnanmedia.com/index-3.html but has anyone purchased this pass before? Props/cons?
merci |
The big clubs there charge a big admission price but drinks are free...
It can cost anywhere from 40-100 to get in...
Adnan's passes get you 7 admissions to the package clubs(all the big ones) and it's 200 cnd...
And you get bypass and all...
Great deal... |

I might have been unclear, I wasn't writing about the bus boys at the RIU hotels (these guys never ask for a penny), but at the faces at the clubs.
The RIU geo told us to give the busboy at the club 5$ for the night, and it would be more than enough. We did that, after the second drink the guy start asking for money again..."give me 20$ and I'll give you a good service the whole night" yeah sure:rolleyes: Its frigging 1$ tip a drink, I'm not gonna drink 20 drinks in one night:rolleyes: |
