Mating habits of the young and urban (A night in club land) (pg. 4)

It's kind of funny when you put together all of the things people say about "our" clubs vs. "theirs". I'm not sure exactly what it is we're competing over, but if one of the criteria is honesty, then we lose, bigtime.

People insist that the reason they go out to afterhours clubs:
- Is not DJ worship
- Is not to hook up
- Is not to show off
- Has nothing to do with drugs or alcohol

So what is it then? Oh, you go for the music? You can listen to that music at home. It's different live? Sounds a lot like the DJ worship angle now. Oh, right, it's the "crowd". But the crowd is actually pretty sketchy and you'll meet a lot more interesting and friendly people playing a sport or a game of poker. Hmm, you say it's the "vibe" now. Starting to sound like drugs might have something to do with it then...

OK, I get it, it's the combination of all those different factors. But you know, those factors are all influenced by the vast majority of people who are there just to find a fling or get mashed out of their gourds. That's just the way it is.

These constant rationalizations and hatred of the "other side" are every bit as tedious as the whole "why I absolutely adore prog/tech/electro/minimal now" queerboating. Everybody does just about every activity for the same reasons: to feel good about themselves, to meet other people, to get laid if possible, and to have fun. There's NO difference in anybody's motivation; the only difference is the degree to which all of the other extraneous crap is stripped away.

But go ahead and keep talking about how disgusting it is. I'm sure it's very comforting when you come home at 6 AM, tired, sweaty, sketchy, and alone. It's fun once in a while, but if that's what you do every week, you really have no right to claim superiority to the "regular" clubbers.

I usually agree with you, but you're way off base here. I'd argue with you, but I'm too lazy, so in point form:

- club sound system > my sound system
- it's not so much individual people in the crowd, as it is the crowd's energy. It's kind of like how it's hard not to laugh when everyone in the room's laughing.
- the above point adds to the vibe, it really doesn't matter if the vibe is drug-induced or not, the point is it is there.

as Aaron already pointed out...

things we all go for regardless of the type of club:
-Music (yes top 40 is music too)
-booze (sure as hell beats opening a bottle at home urself doesnt it)
-"hotties" (dont lie...everyone gawks at the women (and in womens cases, the guys) in the pics from a party
-socializing (meeting new people blah blah blah, finding some person seperated by 6 degrees)
-hooking up(dont tell me that single people in "our" scene dont do it...ive seen after party hookups so often)

now really...just cos we are in a scene that really says "guys...u can look like crap when u come out, we still accept u cos really..ur the only kind that listens to our music" doesnt mean we are "better" than them...

and about the "oh gee golly...2am? what losers, we just get the party started then".....really...is there any need for that? why cant we have parties taht end at a decent hour? why does the headliner always have to start at 130/2?

we are more sheepish than the regular top 40 clubber.

PS. i wanna go to a top 40 club now...

Ahahahah oh my god that was my life when I turned 19, such a loser

I miss Loose Change Louie's in Waterloo though, and I'm never going to step foot in Fubar.
