hey do you guys think the deadmau5 re---
just kidding :)
i contacted hybrids management trying to find out if the strings section is a piece of the classical piece 'Unifnished Symphony' or if in fact the track is original?
i'm basically just wondering if hybrid replayed the strings from an older piece of music -- classical heads help!
thx

Discogs says it was scored by Sacha Puttnam, so I am assuming it's original...
The performance is certainly original; Hybrid commissioned the Russian Federal Orchestra to record the string parts.
There are lots of "unfinished symphonies" in classical music, so you'll have to specify which one you're talking about. Schubert's is the most famous. |

I own a bit of Hybrid. I was getting ready to do a 30min tribute mix to Hybrid (DJP forum), as a matter of fact. I have always been curious if that section is original or ripped/looped off a classical score.
The track is original! Its super rare promo they released in 96 (it was double sided with another song). In 97, there were 4 remixes of it on another rare promo (one or two of them were theirs). I read somewhere that some time later, the duo felt the track was lacking some more elements to complete the track (in a sense of further fullness or edgier sound), so in 99, with their debut release of Wide Angle, they finished Symphony and named it.. Finished Symphony.
Fantastic track and producers. |

Someone mentioned where the original came from on Discogs, the first part of track 1 of this http://www.discogs.com/release/898934 - Symphony No.3 which is why the original track was called "Symphony" I guess. I'm not sure it was ever officially credited but Hybrid blatantly borrowed and rearranged it, I prefer their arrangment of it too.
The Symphony vinyl got a repress in 2000 and got sold as an mp3 so its not quite so rare now, hopefully Distinct'ive will reissue it as digital/cd as its a fantastic track. |

Hmm, the two do sound kind of similar, actually.
"Finished Symphony" doesn't even come close to Gorecki's original, though. :) |

| I think without asking the duo, we might never know. It does sound alike to Gorecki. Which my belief of it being ripped/looped of an original might be true. Although everywhere I have ever read, claims its an original, which may be inspired by Symphony's that sound similiar. |
