Biomedical Science. Lab Research/Medicine/Private Labs/Health Consultancy etc
Apparently there's a shortage of Biomed Scientists around the world, and I finish my degree at the end of this year. Yay! :D |

Just when you think things are going to stay the same....
Beginning May 21st, i'm going to be a Flight Commander.
not an operations flight, however, a training flight.
so instead of being on the operations floor, working w/ the airmen forecasters, i'll be in an office on the first floor, making sure our training program is going through correctly.
i feel really ty about this, because the guy who i am replacing was put down as training flt/cc because he basically "sucked" on the ops floor (i.e. that's when my boss came in and they put him in charge of my flight and he fixed sooooooooo many things).
i told my boss this. that i feel like i'm going a step down in my career (if i even make it a career, i still don't even ing know about that). but he told me that they've wanted to put me in training for a long time now, because i've got some of the most weather knowledge in our whole squadron...and i'm our squadron's weather guru. or whatever. so now i'm going to be a FLT/CC and the squadron's scientist.
which is a good thing, to have someone who is gung ho about weather to be in charge of those teaching weather to our newly enlisted airmen...but i still feel like because i'd rather use my weather knowledge/"skills" for actual operations...not training or "office work".
i no longer will be doing shift work. i'll be working mon-fri, 7-3pm. which sucks even more...i mean, i have weekends off, but i'm going to be so detached from the ops floor.
our squadron is going to region based flights....and instead of making me a FLT/CC for one of those regions, they're making me training, and putting the training guy back on the floor. and they're making a 2nd LT who has been here one year less than me an OPS FLT/CC....our commander pissed me off something fierce this morning, when OPD was over with, he goes up to the other 2nd LT and was like, "hey, congratulations flight commander!" and i'm standing there thinking, "hey, thanks a lot **********" which made me reassure myself that the command staff thinks i suck enough that i shouldn't be on the ops floor.
really really sucks
i feel like ass. everything is getting all sorts of ed up hardcore w/ this change. we have a 2nd LT and a MAJ (and MAJ Select) doing the same job (ops flt/cc). WTF!! everyone's pissed off. its all ed up.
its just all ed up. |

Australia, UK, Sweden and other larger research countries. Depending on where you are in the states, you shouldn't have too much trouble finding a job either. |

My buddy is going to be graduating soon in Biomedical Engineering. He says that really, most of the research in the states is in big pharma, or the uni research labs. |

How is business doing in your particular fields? I'm in the Environmental Consulting/Air Quality sector, and work is little to non-existent lately. I'm considering going into another field as their isn't much else to do with the kind of work I do in this area. How are the companies doing u guys work for? This recession is well into play from what I see. Its not looking good on my end :( |
What do you mean by "environmental consulting?" Because the environmental consulting industry that I know is booming.
Also, if youre referring specifically to AQ, that doesnt surprise me. AQ is old news... no one needs a consultant for that anymore. |
