!!! Fraps won't work with Wing commander (kilrathi saga version):sadgreen: . Wtf did I buy this for(neither does printscreen... wtf I didn't know they had anti aliasing back then) ? Anyone else still find wing commander (or other old games) to have really great gameplay? I love the story too. Why don't games nowdays come with 10 or so pages of backstory and such in the manual? As well as tips/ship specifactions.

most older games, IMO had superior gameplay...they had to since graphics quality was usually lacking. Nowadays its all about eye candy, and gameplay comes second. The old RPG's from back in the day had such good stories for sure.

I love the old Wing Commander games. I can still remember being blown away by WC3 graphics and FMV the first time i ran it. It was something my computer has never experienced before. The load time were a bitch though. Still i played trough thw whole saga about 5 times i think. Damn those were great games.

And KE i agree with you completely. Games used to have superior gamplay, they would pull you in and refuse to let go, but today the first thing we hear about a game is how ing awesome its going to look. Nobody mentions gameplay because it appears kids these days just dont care any more. Guess thats why i mostly play old games.

The fmv is still amazing. How many games nowdays have actors? I think I'm think gonna upload a torrent of the kilrathi saga(wc1+2+3 which all work on xp). Too classic to not be able to find. BTW does anyone know how to get the WC1 secret missions to work on xp (wc2 secret missions work fine) and how many games nowdays have alternate endings? Not only that but the games had quite a few places where there were two routes to go. Instead of oh you died gg try again... you might eject in Wing commander 3 too many times and then suddenly the kilrathi are on earth. I mean comon... the graphics feel more real than warcraft 3 and seeing the big ships shoot each other is just as awesome as any scene nowdays. Ofcourse may as well point out I was born 3 years after Wing Commander 1 was released :happy2: .

p.s. defending that ralari is hard.
p.p.s. What was Wing commander 4 like? I've heard prophecy was though.

IV is quite awesome. The FMVs look better (in WC3 they filmed in front of a blue screen, for IV they actually made sets so the rise in quality is obvious) the flying is just as intense with many more mission type than III and as always a couple of different endings possible. Great game.

Prophecy...well it wasn't but it was quite different then what we were used to. It showed that Chris Roberts left Origin. There were less FMV, the fighters didn't handle quite like the ones from previous games and as opposed to Kilrathi which were about on the same technological level as humans, the Nephilim were far more advanced to the point that it sometimes took you up to 10 minutes to destroy one fighter (damn Manta Rays and their rear mounted cannons!). All in all it wasnt that bad but it just wasn't the same as the previous games so that hurt it quite a bit.

Agreed! Nothing beats old RPG's :)

disagree. games keep getting better, its that our standards are also higher.

side by side, is anyone really gonna tell me that wolf-3d is a better game than crysis?

No, but I honestly have a lot more fun playing Doom than I do playing Doom 3.

depends what kind of games your talking about old rpg's and adventure games like monkey island they are classics and will never be matched cause graphics didnt really matter in those kind of games i am even tempted to play all the monkey islands right now. But when it comes to over kinds of games like first person shooters obviously things have improved for the better there arent really half as many classic first person games.

Theres not really a lot of originality in the gaming world atm, hence the trend of heading back to the classics, and sequels galore. The only improvements we see are graphics, and not too much into gameplay. Sure, theres always exceptions, and we all could pick newer games that have great gameplay, but the majority of releases are focusing on the look of the virtual world, and stories are not very interesting, at least IMO. :D The whole point is the classic games had no chance of success unless people found them exciting and fun to play. Throwing a great storyline in the mix put people into that scenario or world instead of the pretty graphics like todays releases.
