Could be an indication that the environment is warm and / or humid. Bacteria thrive under those two conditions.

Oh well that makes sense. Should I delete this thread now that I know the answer, or keep it for others to learn about bananananaas?

I say keep it. We don't have enough science-related threads in here.

Anyone read the article where they show that temperature is correlated with the cold and then they found the viruses that cause the cold actually THRIVE under 42 degree (~7c) weather? So when it's cold, viruses ef you up. But when it's warm bacteria efs you up. Either way humans loose. :(

Was it the whole bunch or just one or two? The peel could have been punctured or something and you might not have noticed. Otherwise I would say because it's been way hot out here lately.
