The Field's remix of Thom Yorke is hot.....so is his one ambient techno album From Here We Go Sublime. A1...sick.

Could someone explain to me why this is much better that what eg Underworld, Chemical Brothers and Faithless has been doing for years? It's presented like it's something new.

It does sound nice by the way.

Hmmm, maybe the idea is not new, but the music definitely is. I mean, faithless' music was much more linear and mainstream with a typical EDM/pop structure of the era, whereas in this case The Field's loops accompanied by the live playing of !!!, creates a more non-linear, freestyle, kind of "jamming" session which is awesome to look and listen to. You don't see this interactive thing in modern EDM much often. I would definitely like to see future producers and musicians leave their bed-rooms and adopt more organic, hardware/live-playing ways of making music.

it's already been said, but this is not exactly new either - it borrows heavily from psychedelic rock.

it just sounds really cool.

i ing love it

Yes i know, i was the one bringing the psychedelic-rock comparison, because it brought to mind Ozric Tentacles and some 60s bands. Yes, its obvious that muscially these things have been done before, it is not obvious that they have been done within EDM much often. Maybe Underworld and The Chemical Brothers have performed in similar ways but it is still rare.

It's certainly not new by any means (even Way Out West's live act had a drummer and a guitarist or two), but you can't really compare it to Underworld, who don't use a drummer or a bassist and Karl uses the guitar maybe only half of the time during their live performances.

True, although Faithless did have some nice and surpising live versions. Underworld and The Chemical Brothers probably jammed a lot more.

I think it would be best if only few would start performing like this, because it should stay special. Compare to vocals in nowadays trance...

I heard at ASOT350 one of the DJ's brought his synths, but to be honest, I need to listen again to hear that :)

There are/were some other live performers. In Holland around 1990/91 Quazar started performing live combining Techno, Clubhouse and funky acid and mainstream pop.

Also there is a Dutch dance/trance band called Dyna-Saw, but I never heard of them, just googled a bit.

Then I found one which some over here really might like:

The other topic gives me that impression, but I don't think it's new and also don't believe it's going to be the future:

I think this is where the future of electronic music is heading...
