i certainly wouldn't call china a developed country either, especially after 9000 people died in an earthquake today. many people in china live in very unsafe housing, despite their big skyrise buildings. |
Not to mention all the displaced denizens that are incapable of making enough money to survive due to their age. And the need to have 10 people in a house all working just to live a barely comfortable existence. |

the so-called rise of china is more of a fantasy. while the country as a whole is rising, the people aren't seeing a proportionate growth in income. few are getting very rich, some are improving their situation, but for most the so-called rise has only inconvienced their lives because they make sacrifices (ie., being moved from cities to build dams, being forced to sell their land for well below market value) for the improvement of the whole without a corresponding personal benefit. |

And that is just barely scratching the surface. It is very unfortunate too. In the NYT there is an series of articles about the whole situation. It is like 10 articles, each around 10 pages (their internet pages) long. Really good articles. Talks about this, water problems, power problems, the price of being an environmentalist, and just being a lower class denizen.

The guy at 8:40 (Dimitry Rumyantzev) sounds like a pompous douche.
There's a lot of violence in Russia, the so-called "Gopniki" robbing people, random street fights, etc. Extremism and fanaticism have always been a problem. |

| I just think it's pretty funny that these ignorant people embrace Nazism when Nazis considered Russians to be subhuman and worthless scum just like everyone else. Couldn't they find a more original way of organizing their hate than just copping out and defaulting to being Nazi skinheads? |

The NSO is already sending over operatives to Israel who are trying to subvert the Isreali state...
| quote: | The original picture painted by investigators of a Petah Tikva-based neo-Nazi group has grown more serious in the days since the lifting of a gag order on the subject, as more and more people have submitted complaints to the police claiming that they too fell victim to the violent gang.
Central District police disclosed that information late Monday, hours after Israel Police Insp.-Gen. David Cohen revealed during a pre-Rosh Hashana celebration the bad news that there are "dozens more neo-Nazis in Israel."
Police were working on finding those neo-Nazis, including combing neo-Nazi Web sites for possible suspects, Cohen said at the annual toast at the Police National Headquarters in Jerusalem.
Experts have warned that neo-Nazi organizations may be active in urban areas including Beersheba and the Haifa suburbs. |

doesn't brazil still have rampant poverty? while i've never experienced it, i've heard that the slums around rio are very 3rd world[ish]. literally neighborhoods with tin roof homes. correct me if i'm wrong. |
They exist, and I'm not saying that Brazil is a completely developed country. However, we're definitely in some kind of intermediate state... and there's no label for that.

i would think that in order to shed the label, the wealth distribution has to go down the ladder further so that there isn't a significant percent of the population living in squalor. i certainly wouldn't call china a developed country either, especially after 9000 people died in an earthquake today. many people in china live in very unsafe housing, despite their big skyrise buildings. |
Well, they're pretty much like us. |

That video got no one killed. Those 2 people that WERE killed, were killed before the film was shot. They were showing an example of how this racism has taken hold, and affected peoples lives. |
