Serious Inquiry About Music Education !
View this Thread in Original format
Axer
I've been thinking of going back to school for a music degree this September, but can't decide my options right now. Maybe a 3 or four year program to get to know myself better, my compositions and my abilities better. I'm already a producer rather than a disk jockey, since there are people older than me in this community. I'm looking for some serious proper guidance and recommendation please.
What would be the best school? Will it be worthy? Can I make a living out of it? What my career options would be like? Is there anyone here a graduate on music? I've been addictively posting on COR, so I thought I ask here. Thanks.

Are you good at sucking cock?

If so, then yes - you can make a living.

:)

Say what you like on this thread, but help me out for one time.

I think that pertains to you as well.

1. You're asking a lot of complicated questions with answers that you aren't likely to get here, especially considering the information you've given hardly gives anyone a clue as to what you actually want to do beyond "going to school for music."

2. Whether or not you can make a living on it depends on what you want to do with it, but if you're really looking into the music production or electronic music angle, then get ready to suck cock. It's just how it is.

Help is not something you're likely to come by in c0r. :)

If you don't have the initiative to have already researched this stuff at least a little bit yourself, you have little hope of either (a) getting into a good school or (b) making a living with music.

I'm doing a little research on it. Hobby turning into a career would be awesome!

I respect all music though but wouldn't it be easier to ask around who been through this path before?

I'm not sure that going to college would necessarily help you break into the music industry. But if you decide to go, make sure it's one that actually HELPS you by connecting you to the industry itself (instead of "teaching" you and having NO connections to the industry whatsoever like SAE institute in LA). Also if possible try to take courses that helps you gain a better understanding of law, distribution, publishing, marketing, etc., of music so that once you get a track finished you know how to generate revenue.

It doesn't seem like you've done much research at all when you're asking questions like:

In fact, it actually seems like the only thought you've had is that at some point you decided this might be a neat topic for a thread in c0r and decided to post it.

In summary, your prospects aren't looking good champ. That is, unless you're planning on hitting up something like Full Sail - in which case you're only limit is your parents credit and/or your ability to get student loans.

*points noted*

that's useful information. I believe I can do a lot more with a proper education.
