looking for a "rave"... (quote unqoute, help me find what she wants)

hey everyone. let me begin that i am not that new to the club/electronic scene in new york. i am not immersed in it because i don't live directly in the city, but outside of it. i've primarily been to dnb shows, with really my only exposure to house/trance/etc being at larger festivals. i used to go to them about twice a month, but recently havent been able to go to many (school has devoured my time)

heres my "predicament". i met this girl a while ago, we just recently started to get to know each other. she lives in brooklyn, i'm moving to brooklyn this summer. we first met when we were both in rome and i said i really wanted to go to a rave there but only got around to it once when she couldnt come (though she really wanted to). so, when she found out that i'm living in nyc this summer, she asked if we could go to a rave together. i obviously said yes. thus began my search...

i found the party planner, and it. is. amazing. i've found a bunch of shows i want to go see, but are things that she wouldn't like. she is into rap, reggae, alternative, indie, basically anything. i showed her some stuff that (unexpectedly) turned out to be jungle-ish, which she did not like. she may like dub, but what she's looking for is more house-like.
all musical tastes aside, she loves to dance, and thats why she wants to go to a rave.

now, i have been an avid electronic music listener for years. i started with trance + house, but quickly departed from them. the last exposure i have with these genres is hard house and psytrance (rather limited, rather outdated).

so after this extremely long shpeal.... i ask of you, whoever can help me and is more knowledgeable about the current scene (i.e. anyone :p), where should i take her? she has an inclination towards house over trance, she doesn't do drugs so i cant expect her to just take e and be happy with whatever.

i want to go to a "rave" where we can dance. if its in a club i guess its less preferable, but it seems that virtually all "raves" are now in clubs. (as a side note, do the stereotypical raves still exist anywhere? are there still outdoor parties that dont have tens of thousands of people sponsored by the city? i love being outdoors, its always seemed contradictory to have a rave in a confined box, but we play with the cards we're dealt)

any recommendation is immensely appreciated, a date + venue + artist information is the best thing i can ask for, but a venue, an artist, anything, i am extremely grateful for.

thank you!!!!!!!!

Forgive me but I am not convinced. You have been a lurker since 2006 and this is your first post so I am sure you can understand why.

I'll answer you anyway....

The simplest way would be to find out what artists she likes, or just let her choose the event. Keep in mind, wherever you take her...if it ends up being horrible it will probably turn her off to this scene entirely so you want to make sure it is something good.

Since you are both going to be in Brooklyn I would suggest Armin van Buuren @ Mc Carren park which is in Brooklyn so you wont have to travel far. Not really a rave, but an outdoor party.

i'm not sure what you're unconvinced by but this is my first post because i've never been a part of the trance community. now that i'm trying to somewhat get into it i come here asking for help.

i checked out mc carren park, it sounds very very cool, expensive though. but it has some great artists this summer so i'll definately keep it in mind. thanks for the recommendation!!!

If you think thats expensive look at the prices for Paul van Dyk and Tiesto.

i have! its rediculous! i cant believe people would pay THAT MUCH, but i guess for legends at the top of their field its understandable :/

There are some lower priced parties thrown by the locals. Just keep on top of the threads and get on the guest list.

she seems really high maintenance. you know what that means

time to dump a bitch :tongue2:

edit: like kad said

terrordemon
i guess what i wrote gave off the wrong impression...

i'm going to say not high maintenance at all, just doesnt really like jungle, and likes to dance. i guess that means high maintenance...?

Take her to armin van buuren. If it's a nice day it will be fun, even if she doesnt love trance.
