Danny Howells @ Stereo - Sun/May.18 (pg. 5)

I haven't been to an after-hour in a while, and wow, what a night this was!

Started the night with some TAs (Enjoy, Tag, John_H2O), but we lost Val due to the heat and Brendan due to fatigue. The night itself was separated into three parts, starting with the filling up of the room (and the rising of the temperature) with alright beats until 6 or so, then came the sick beats started till 8, after which the really sick beats came on just as Piett arived and went on till closing at 12ish. By 10 or so my legs were dead.. the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak and all that.

Props to the TAs and non-TAs I met, and thanks to those who convinced me to go (and Julius)! And of course, props to Danny Howells for an awesome night.. Stereo is a real nice place to be.

like everyone said the heat was just unbearable.....

got there around 3.30, and it was already packed, and he was already dropping the beats....I personally didn't have a good time at all due to A) bad lack of sleep the night before, B) ing hot C) like enjoy said, the CONANS lol (dude didn't see you!)

he played a various set of all types of house, i like him, always keeps changing it up, just didn't like when there was about an hour or so of some "too funk" house, for me ....i found he played better from about 6.30-8.45, playing darker and harder, more up my road. Loved when he played Gregor Tresher - A Thousand Nights (Dubfire Quiet Storm Remix), there was other bombs he dropped, can't remember now.

Nice seeing Erika and Dar + crew, nice meeting RayRay (finally! lol) and Vermz. Overall music wise he played way better than the last time i saw him in Sept....it was a music treat for my ears, but EVERYTHING else just damped the night for me.....

did you guys expect him to pound it out with dubfire style anthems for 10 + hours??

im just wondering.

this man is an artist with a mastery of all genres of electronic music unlike any other.

if only some of you couldve witnessed his sets at ARC/vinyl. like the time he ended his set with bon jovi - living on a prayer(while wearing a mullet wig), or snuck in TLC no scrubs towards the end of the night.

have you guys heard his productions that he does with dick trevor such as dusk til dawn? or his collection of "choice" cuts on azuli.

danny loves disco :) with all those "shirtless conan's" you were lucky to get only an hour of "too funk house"

ps. is there a such thing as house thats too funky?

i do feel ya on the too hot thing though, it can get pretty messy in any club, especially on a holiday weekend.

didn't say i hated it, but just not my thing.....and music like "got the power", or whatever he played, wasn't my thing....like i said, out of the 3 times i saw him, this was the best experience musically from him
Enjoy

definitely a great night all around, danny really is the king of the marathon sets. at the end of the night, there's a distinct reason I always come back for more - unwaivering consistency. always a party, always sick, underground beats, programmed perfectly. Sunday night was no different.

After arriving to the city at 11pm Sun, i grubbed some poutine and promptly passed out until 6am. Woops! But that ended up being a blessing in disguise. When I finally arrived, Stereo was so mobbed and incredibly hot & dank that it was a total buzzkill. The booth did provide some refuge, but it really took until the room started opening up around 8:30 for it to become tolerable.

What I did hear of his set was in line with what I've come to expect from Danny circa '06 - present. lots of dark, hard beats, somewhere between techno and prog. the occasional more-melodic track to lighten things up for a few minutes before the next on-slaught. He pulled the last record of the 1200 around 12:30 to a still-busy floor of appreciative afterhours derelicts. Not many cities hold it down like Montreal.

I spotted 5 tracks from 6-12:30 (that I can remember). Some of my buddies spotted others, they'll probably post them later.

- Smith & Selway - Total Departure (original)
- Gregor Tresor - 1000 Nights (Dubfire Quiet Storm remix)
- Tim Green - Revox (Justin Martin remix)
- Pat Grindvik - Do Us Part (Len Faki remix)
- Robert Babicz - Dark Flower (Joris Voorn remix)
DarV
PLease tracklist or better yet anyone know if set was recorded
