Regarding the first four, to be honest with you I thought those mixes (well at least the first and third) were the rockiest.

Hehe, like I said, untrained ears! To me it sounded pretty damn good.

I put everything on hold to give this a listen after telling you I would get round to it. Just finished it now and I enjoyed it a lot. Technically it was outstanding- the first couple of transitions were the only ones that I actually noticed in a "oh, the track's changing" way. The rest were as smooth as you like. The highlights were the opener, which was a touch of class, and whichever tracks were playing at around 36 and then 47 minutes respectively. I lost touch with the tracklist due to the tightness of the mixing and my lack of expertise in this genre, but those two put big smiles on my face.

Nice touch to close on a classic too. Just about the only thing I felt you could have done differently was introduce Love Story a bit better. It sounds let you let it run into the break when the hook first kicks in (unless I just didn't notice it coming in sooner), which would have done damage on a dancefloor but felt a little abrupt through the headphones, compared to the rock-solid transitions that had built up to it. That's probably just nit-picking though because you're a much better DJ than me- I'd have been happy if I'd made that transition in the same way.

Overall, a very nice little set. It has a good groove running through it peppered with some gorgeous stand-out moments.

Thanks so much for the thoughts, J - I really appreciate getting feedback from people I know think about music as much as you do.

RE: The tunes you enjoyed, the first was Karu - Maraud Your Ears (Tim Paris) [Edit] and the second was the new Guy J - Under Pressure. The Karu track closed the second disc of Desyn's balance a few years back, but I was always upset he didn't use any of the intro in the mix (which is easily the most awesome part of the tune IMO), and the Guy J tune just reminds me of the kinds of classic "epic prog" that appeared in your epic prog set.

RE: The mix into Layo & Bushwacka - I tried a couple different ways to get that one to work, different phrasings and bassline drops, but couldn't get that thick intro bassline from the Tim Deluxe to play well with the Persuader tune. I definitely feel like I got it as well as I could, but still understand it probably could have been better.

Thanks again for the thoughts, boss :)

brilliant mix rob, not entirely sure on the melody as an opener, but from then on it everything was ing fantastic, definately gonna have to get the album mix of ass to mouth, don't remember the club mix being that good :stongue:
and I'd forgotten all about Maraud your Ears. For Shame.

ok i put it on this morning while i got ready but i haven't finished yet. i gotta be honest...i didn't start dancing around and saying, " yea" until that track about 18 min into it. the intro and first couple songs didn't really do it for me. maybe it's just a totally diff genre i haven't accquired a taste for yet. usually if my attention isn't grabbed by the end of the 2nd song i just skip through the rest of the set to see if it's any good or i turn it off...but it's you rob and i wanna give it a chance so i shall continue listening with some wine tonight when i get home. :)

Just had this on again after Clovda's Headband Techno... still doing it for me!!:D

Looks pretty slick Rob, giving it a go. I'll get back to you with comments; I'm sure it will be lovely.

ok...100% honest. it was ok listening...but it didn't make me think OMG WOW. the only part that really stuck out for me and made me turn it up was from about 18:00 - 35:00...then i dunno. the rest of the tracks didn't really do it for me.

i have a hard time following the REALLY repetative stuff that doesn't seem to have a flowey melody...i found that a lot of the tracks in this set were like that. like just random spurts of piano keys being hit on a keyboard with a beat. not my cup of tea.

sorry i wish i liked it more. of course the mixing was perfect though. track selection not so much for me. but i won't give up on u just yet;)

You never have to apologize for being honest, Jamie.

Thank you for listening and taking some time talk about it a bit.
