Oh. Forgot to give feedback on this one.
First of all, let me say that this mix and 'Between The Lines 000' has been in heavy rotation for me these last couple weeks. Both are extraordinary.
Where shall I begin with this? The flow is wonderful throughout this, and the mixing is as tight as ever. You have real talent, Rob.
The mix from 'Funk That' into 'Maraud Your Ears' was perfect! You nailed it. And you know how much trouble I've had with that particular track, so it definately impressed the hell outta me to hear it mixed so well (especially mixing in at the very beginning of the track with the not-so-dj-friendly stabbing synths).
On top of it all, there are just some really in' awesome tunes in this.
Keep up the great work, man. I look forward to your next mix. :) |

Okay, I know I'm way late on this, but I finally gave it a critical listening today.
Altogether I really really liked this one. The first transition was a bit abrupt, but after than that it was smooth sailing the rest of the way. You pretty much described it aptly in your post: drummy and loopy, no dicking around. Good selections, and good flow. Props.
My only real critique is that Love Song came a bit too quickly after the main course of chunky techno. If I were you I'd have put a few tracks between Mr Templar and Love Song so that things would flow into the closer more smoothly. But I assume you had a reason to cap things off at the 60 minute mark instead of going the full 80.
All in all, well done. |

Rob, another awesome mix - between you and Clovis I've been getting my fill of techno/tech house. There were parts on this one that had more of a proggy feel, which I loved - it worked very well.
Oh, that's gotta be one of the best opening tracks I've heard in quite some time, at first I wondered how it would fit in with the rest, but it sounded fantastic. And a kick ass closer, too, the entire t/l on this was very solid.
Every time I listen to sets like this in the promo forum I'm inspired to keep grinding away, practice, and look harder for more good music. Cheers. |

That is actually probably my favorite transition that I have ever done - I really love those synths in the beginning, they might be my favorite part of just about any track ever.
To be fair though, I did just edit 32 beats of percussion onto the beginning to make it relatively easy to mix, and so long as those are matched, the synths will drop on beat every time.

Well, it's probably not a "good reason", but I really just felt like that was where the mix was done. I find it a bit humorous that you and J have very different takes on how you'd have liked "Love Story" to come in - one earlier and more interestingly mixed, and one a bit later. I know it was a bit of a change in pace for the set, but I also really thought it played kind of well as a closer where the C2 mix was the opener.
All in all, I'm stoked you liked it. Thanks for taking the time to check it out and leave some feedback :)

That was definitely the vibe I was going for - the "prog but not prog" vibe is something I really strive to attain when I play techno and tech house, so it makes me happy a few folks seem to be getting that.

Me too, man - have wanted to put it in a promo for ages, but never had the chance.
True story: the first night I ever met any TA's, I was playing a rave in Lafayette, IN - the last two tracks I played were Bedrock - Emerald (Gray Area Mix) and Layo & Bushwacka - Love Story (Original Mix).
This mix felt a bit like coming full circle because of it :p |

I remember I was just getting into that type of house. It wasn't really progressive, it wasn't really funky or techy but a mixture of all those sub-genres. Still the sample is very well used, excellent track! timeless. |
I used to spend so much time with friends getting lit and listening to "Night Works" on random Summer nights that it just reminds me of a time when I too was just kind of getting into the prog/house side of things, and still didn't have much to worry about in life (vis. adult responsibilities - though I arguably still don't have many :p).
Not so much a "better" time at all, just a different one that I have very fond memories of. This mix reminds me a lot of those days in a lot of ways. |

| I liked this mix, but not as much as your others. Not really a fan of Maraud Your Ears, its cool but I dunno if it fit well in here. |
