LOL I always joked with my friend that I would go to the MTCC (where we write most of our exams) and tape a paper full of answers on the back of one of the toilet tanks in the washroom. It would be soooo easy, and even if you were assisted to the washroom they wouldnt know (or do they listen for peeing noises? in that case, drink a lot of water before your exam :p ).
But as I stated in my first post, I never have and never will cheat in university.
Lisa you must admit that some of these 'cheaters' methods are very intelligent. |

The whole plagiarism thing in college and univ. is way too tight ass IMO. Its almost to the point that you have to cite someone for saying the sky is blue.
I had a teacher accusing me of plagiarism for c/p the syntax of a mysql INSERT stmt and so on...when its quite public knowledge. Its to the point you have to overcite to be safe. Such a pita process.
re: cheating
i have put some formulas in my TI-83 calc in high school and a bit in univ.
I personally believe that knowledge is about how much useless crap u can stuff in your head, but how you can solve problems. Unfortunately, there are still to many courses out there that just want you to be a cram junkie and not understand the subject matter instead.
I remember an exam where I had to list the methods of a java class and stuff....nobody does that. Programmers use an API, they dont memorize it!
I dont feel bad for people who cheat on nonsense crap like the example stated above. If I were an employer, id want someone that can think, not someone that is a cram junkie! |

I can't agree with that. Maybe for certain courses that were just rote memorization, OK, you may as well cut corners because the test is entirely artificial. But if the exam is testing how well you're able to apply the fundamentals, and you don't even know what they are, much less how to apply them, then you don't deserve the degree.
Unless you end up in a career with a very low level of responsibility, you won't be able to hide incompetence in the real world. You might be able to fool some people, for a while, but the minute you end up in the same room as someone who's ambitious and assertive and has his own bull detector, you're toast. I guess you're right in saying that the real world isn't lovey-dovey, but the corollary is that the real world can be quite vicious and ruthless.
I see this even in my own office, where I consider most people to be pretty competent and diligent. Sometimes people will cut corners and think that other people won't notice. We notice, and I don't just mean me. We just don't necessarily rat on you right away, because (a) it's unprofessional, and (b) it's strategically more effective to keep that evidence in "the vault" for when it's really needed.
People will think this is all corporate politics but it's honestly not. The fact is, I don't ever want my personal performance being tied to somebody whom I know I can't rely on, and if that situation were ever to arise, I wouldn't hesitate to ensure that those circumstances were appropriately changed. Ultimately I care about my work, and my own professional reputation, and although I certainly wouldn't refuse to help a friend or coworker with a small problem, it's not my responsibility to cover up for another person's consistently poor performance and work ethic.
To the people who cheated through university: you got lucky. We can see right through you. Your professors just didn't give a .
The greatest irony to me is that if some of these cheaters spent half as much effort on actually studying as they did on cheating, they'd probably ace the courses easily. |

I knew a girl that got caught, she did realize she did it, but got a zero.
Now I am overly paranoid. I cite after pretty much every sentence. lol

no, not at all. not sure where you get that. Sometimes, before going into an exam, it is expected that the exam will only be about cramming..and most people feel that cramming that info is useless and would be enticed to cheat..
I guess my point is that many teachers are too lame to write a proper exam and will look at the book and create questions that require cramming of stuff instead of creating questions that would require knowledge and understanding of the subject matter in order to answer.
I guess im just frustrated with the poor quality of many courses i have taken. My entire college experience @ Niagara college was a joke...but hey, the college is ranked #1 in satisfaction in ontario.
Now I am taking online univ. with Athabasca U. While I have learnt a lot more than college, I feel there is still alot of improvement that can happen in the course design and so on. Maybe one day I'll design and teach courses my way and get people to learn instead of cram
Re: cheating in Uni. - I have searched up answers for questions online and used the answers to make my own or get a feel. Copied verbatim: no (not stupid)
in college, i had many pple copy on me for assignments and stuff. Got perks in return, so its all good. |
