Dear DigiNut,
I know your font is the same size but what makes you 'differnt' is that you constantly write LONG paragraph. Every time I see a long digi-rant I must go track down my glasses just to read it (if I bother, cause thats a lot of work sometimes).
I may sentence you to writing bullet point lists only :p

Relativity is what we use to make ourselves feel better (and in no wise am I saying that I'm exempt from this by any means), but a standard exists whether we like to admit it or not. |

it does partly justify cheating. I do not feel I should have a low grade for having a teacher that is lazy for creating a test that does not test knowledge.
I am all for challenging and thorough examinations, but it pisses me right off when I get an exam thats asking for regurgitation of facts you wouldn't need to know by heart in real life.
I find it similar to the workplace issue of standards and policies you have to abide by and do not really agree to...so you will bend the rules and work around to get by. (this is not a perfect 1 to 1 analogy, but does explain the situation a bit).
For example, I am a System Administrator, and I need to go through a change process in order to actually modify a production system (per policy). The turnaround is 3 business days(the process) and multiple approvals(the policy), but the client notifies same day that something needs to be changed, and if you don't change it, impacts will occur to the business. What do I do?
-follow the policy, and the business incurs impacts
-or I go around the policy and ensure no impacts occur...

i haven't read through the thread, but i'll contribute:
At my school, we use a certain calculator for a number of courses. it has an equation solver function where you can punch in any equation and known values, and bam, it solves it for you. Very useful for finance, making things quick and easy, but this isnt where i cheated. There is a function called 'program' where you can write your own programs for the calculator, and hitting the 'alpha lock' turns the keypad into a full keyboard. the blank screen for writing programs becomes your notepad.
what i did, was i stored equations that i would use in 'solver' function using that program function. I would go into program, copy down the formula, go into solver, punch it in, punch in the values, done.
the actual way it should have been done was by breaking the formula apart and solving it and putting it back together. i used this to save TONS of time on my exam.
is it cheating, or is it taking full advantage of the tools i'm given. bit of both. |

Damn thats a good idea man. After six years at Uni I'm surprised I never heard of a strategy like that. The members of my fraternity had a "test file" It was a collection of mid terms and exams that were completed over the last 20 years at the U of Guelph in a variety of programs, not exactly cheating but it has more than the blank copies you would find at the library. It was useful as you could gain a real insight as to how the prof like to structure a question and what he/she is looking for in an annswer. As for whether I have cheated......not in school, but certainly on a resume to try and land a job. You just make sure you have a bull story to back up the lie or your ed. |

gotta love TI-83 calcs! In high-school, our math teacher would reset the calc tho before exams, no dice... |
