[Prog Breaks] OrgaNik - The Light Within [Full 320]

I don't know if anyone's noticed but I haven't been very active around these parts lately. There were actually moments some time ago when I thought about quitting the whole producing thing since nothing seemed to work for me.

Well... due to some recent changes in my life I feel like I'm getting back in the game again. In fact, I only started this little ditty this morning.

It's a relaxed breaks thingy with no major hooks or anything, the sort of think one could expect from me I suppose.

OrgaNik - The Light Within (8:20, 320kbps, 19MB)

Enjoy.

Sounds great, Nik... love the atmosphere that's created here. I sure could learn a lot about programming my drums/percs from listening to your tracks. They always sound fantastic. Also, very cool to hear this as there doesn't seem to be much stuff like this coming out these days.

When the pad started playing initially, it sounded very... I don't know, "generic pad"-y, if that makes sense. It sounded very much like a typical pad preset, I guess is the way I would put it. However, it sounded great in the full mix. I like the high piano sound as well. Bass sounds great... is simple but effective. And the acid-inspired bassline that comes in later is very cool. I like the new percs that happen in the background at this point, as well. Not sure how to describe it...sounds like it might be a filtered drum loop, and it really added a nice element. (It starts at about 4:32).

One thing I wouldn't have minded hearing is a melody that spanned over the course of 32 or 64 bars in the latter half of the track. Not meaning something "catchy", but just something that adds an organik [sic] element to the track. ;) Just a random thought.

Damn this percussion work kills me.

Heh, the percs are far more simplistic than you might think, I just layered some one-off hits and delays on top of them. The additional percs in the middle part is a d'n'b loop playing at about half speed and running through some automated distortion.

The piano melody was originally twice as long but I didn't think the later part worked quite as well as I wanted so I just cut it in half.

I didn't necessarily think the percs were overly complex, but more just impressed on how well they fit in the mix. Nice job on the d'n'b loop...neat. :)

Definitely needs more sidechain and analog.

Very nice track. Reminds me of breaks tracks that Nick Warren has played in some of his sets.

Drums are well-programmed. I also like the acidish sounds and the oscillating sound in the fadeout (is that the Scream tube distortion I hear?).

This inspired me to play around with making some prog breaks... :)

I'm not even half way through it, but I gota say, DAMN :)

Oh yeah. Scream might just be the greatest thing ever invented.

Thanks for the feedback.

Wonderful percussion work. I really like this track. Emotional, yet subtle. It definately get's it's point across without being overbearing.

Great job, Nik. :)

Been getting into a lot of progressive music recently, not so much breaks but I am really liking this one. Very soothing and relaxing :) Well done mate.
