Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama says he would always keep the military option against Iran on the table to defend Israel.
Speaking to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), Obama said, �The danger from Iran is grave, it is real, and my goal will be to eliminate this threat.�
He rejected the notion that he would adopt a softer stance on Iran and warned that he would do everything in his power against the Islamic Republic if it does not stop threatening Israel and continues its uranium enrichment.
Obama, who became the presumptive Democratic nominee on Tuesday, said if Tehran cooperates, 'there will be rewards',
"As president of the United States, I would be willing to lead tough and principled diplomacy with the appropriate Iranian leader at a time and place of my choosing -- if, and only if -- it can advance the interests of the United States."
However, he continued that if the Islamic Republic fails to follow course, it will be 'the author of its own demise'.
"I will always keep the threat of military action on the table to defend our security and our ally Israel," Obama said.
Pundits maintain that Obama's gradual shift into a pro-Israeli camp occurred after the media began portraying him as a candidate least likely to support the Israeli regime.
In order to secure his presidency, Obama has realized that by threatening Israel's number one enemy, Iran, he can curry favor with the highly influential Israeli lobby in the US and possibly turn the tables in his favor. |

he's a politician, he has to do these things. for some reason obama supporters think he's above being influenced by the people who are going to vote him into office. it's not possible to be voted into office without doing something for those who will vote for you, otherwise those people won't support you. |

Exactly, he's a politician, he's full of ... and he's going to do what ALL other presidents have done, bent over and take it up his AIPAC owned ass. It's not like AIPAC forms a significantly large chunk of the population or demographic voting block, so that argument is a little retarded in this respect.

When I was watching him at this speech I just knew that you would post it....
I lol'd to myself just thinking about it....
He's not going to ass kiss Israel as has been the case for the previous eight years. The man's already come under fire from their government for offering to open dialogue with the Iranians.
plus I've just received news that Obama is actually a politician and not the messiah.
so calm down Z......
besides, his main platform is not Israel or Iran... its America...

I'm perfectly calm, I'm just laughing my ass off at all the Obama supporters that rally after him with blinders. And could you name the last politician running for office that claimed "Israel to be his platform" and "not America" :stongue:? |

Plus I think his steadfast stance on the Iraq war trumps any "typical" politician stance that many people try to put on him....

what's rather ironic is that the israeli lobby also has the full support of the conservative christians.
i don't understand why a president in this country can't be against unquestioned support for israel without being anti-jewish. for a very small population of people concentrated in NYC and california, the jewish people in this country sure as hell know how to rally and tear down politicians. |
