Shows I will be attending for sure.
Dave Dreden, Blank & Jones, and DeadMau5!!!!
Thinking about going to Acosta if I have the extra cash since I am unemployed right now. I know it's kinda early but I am thinking about going to SF for love fest this year in October and I am looking for a travel companion. Male or female doesn't matter. Someone trustworthy and not TOO crazy. HA HA HA. No serious drug users, perverts, rapist, serial killers, dumb asses, old dirty men, need apply. Just someone that wants to fly out together and share either a room at a hostel or a hotel room. Hostel sounds cool only cause there is a plenty of people who will be there from all over visiting and prolly partying all night. Whereas at a hotel we have to be all quit and well-mannered around all the old stuck-up folk. I was thinking staying somewhere in the Haight or even a cute bed and breakfast might be cool too. Just thought I would throw that out there. |
GO!!!!! seriously, i go every year and it is by far one of my favorite weekends of music EVER!!!!! and i go to miami every year for conference and have been to DEMF and several vegas things and i still love the vibe in SF for lovefest over all of them!!!! plus it's my birthday that weekend.
the parade itself is so much fun, you meet so many people from all over. you can dress up crazy or just go as you are, everyone is so friendly and the music is so great.
friday night lee burridge does lovelee party that is so much fun. but there are tons of other parties going on friday w/trance as well. then the parade and then the afterparty at the civic center or there are other parties. then my favorite is sunday at the End Up, starts about 5 am sunday morning w/ some of the deepest darkest scariest beats until the sun comes up then lee burridge and bill patrick tag team for 8 hours after that!!!! i just die, so much fun.
if you want some other info, pm me i can give you my number, etc. give you a heads up about stuff. but definitely GO!!!!
now any other reviews about lawler??? :D
he'll be at monster massive out here this october, i'm kinda surprised since it's an all ages rave, wouldn't have thought i'd see him do that one but i'm so happy!!! |

Actually, if I understood that correctly, wouldn't it be a good thing that he wanted to play a full set and give the people more? I understand that he should respect closing times, but maybe he was just so into the set that he wasn't done. At least he's not one of those people who leave extra early. |
When the venue could be sued, it's a problem. My brother was trying to give him a way to end his set the way he wanted, rather than what happened (faders pulled down leaving everyone confused and pissy). |

Sued? For what? Well, maybe there is an aspect of this I don't understand. So, what did he say to your brother? I guess it was a bad decision on Acosta's part to leave everyone confused and upset, but why do these clubs have to be so uptight about things? Reminds me of all the shows where the bouncers were saying, "the club is closed, get out," while some of us are just trying to say a quick hi to the djs. Can't they give an extra minute? |

I think a lot of it has to do with city codes and ordinances, where they wouldn't necessarily get sued, but they could be shut down. It's usually a rule of everyone out by a certain time or else... meaning they could end the sets earlier so everyone can say hi to the DJ, or they could let the DJ play a few minutes longer and hope they don't have many lingering around trying to meet the DJ. I think most people would vote for the longer set... but that's just me.
Depending on what sort of licenses they have, and how they plan to operate (the club, I mean) they have to follow the rules.
You can blame all the ghetto kids in Buckhead for causing all the strict enforcement. |

"This is my last track man. It's cool" x 5 (in a span of 20 minutes)
And no, they can't give you an extra minute by law. Props to Devin at Danny Howells though. :) |

Well, that's true. There are codes and ordinances. I guess most of us would rather hear more music than say hi to the dj, but sometimes it's cool. This kind of brought up a question that has always been on my mind, why do djs always start so late? I mean, where did that tradition start? Most concerts are ending when these shows are just starting.

:p You wish. Seriously man, if you can get him at your house, let him play for the rest of us. LOL.
Drew, I'll be at BT and Deadmau5 most likely. Good to hear there's another TA here in Alpharetta. |

Trust me, I feel your pain. Especially when these DJ's are booked in the middle of the week and you'd risk screwing up your entire work week by showing up, hungover, and two hours of sleep on a TUESDAY. I've heard the argument that Opera and other clubs book on weekdays because they can fill up on weekends, regardless, with any crap they spin.
I don't understand it. Really, all the clubs here are the same. From Compound, to Vision, to Velvet Room, and now Opera. They're all really the SAME club with the SAME people, playing the SAME ty music. It's like Atlanta has a communist nightlife scene, all catering to hip hop. Yay.
... and that concludes my tangent that went off topic :D |

Well, honestly I only go to clubs for big events usually. I bet your right though, on regular nights, there isn't much difference in clubs. I actually went to Club Europe with my friend a few months ago. She wanted to experience it and I thought I'd check it out. The whole clubbing thing just isn't my style, and it was nothing but hip hop, but it was fun. I really enjoy seeing a good dj though, to me it's almost more like a concert. I guess that's one reason I don't really understand the whole night life thing. I think I'd have just as much fun if the dj went on at 10. I do think it's cool sometimes though. But you are right, there are times where staying out until 4 in the morning just doesn't work. |
