If you're blonde, dye your hair dark so you blend in more.

Seriously.

A friend of mine and I have been talking about taking a trip in September to either Ecuador (because she is moving there), or Brazil (because she used to live there).

I have never been to either, and when reading the Canadian Travel Advisories, they both seem like dangerous and scary places to go (lol).

Now I know just from going to the Dominican and seeing the Advisory for there that the Advisories are a little... exaggerated.

I would like to know if anyone here has gone (or lives) in either Ecuador or Brazil and what you thought of it.

Brazil definitely. As long as you don't go to the favelas or "slums", you'll be fine. If you stay out of the bad parts of town, all you have to worry about is your wallet and purse. Lots of poor kids walking the street who wouldn't think twice about pick-pocketing you. So much more in Brazil than Ecuador in my opinion.

I agree. Sash! never made a track called 'Brazil'

I think it's good they decided to name it Ecuador instead of Brazil. I mean, try replacing Ecuador with Brazil in the song, and it doesn't sound at all.

Ecuador! vs Brazil! == E-cua-dor! vs Bra-zil! or maybe Bra-a-zil?

No, I think Ecuador is better. A lot better.

She and her fiance are buying a resort in Ecuador. At the end of November she is going to be moving there indefinitely.

At first she wanted to take me to Brazil because she lived there for a year, and she wanted to go back to visit. However, now that she has confirmation that the resort dealings are going through, she has gotten all excited and wants to go there instead.

I would prefer to go to Brazil for several reasons. She speaks Portuguese fluently... she knows a lot of people there, and we will have places to stay.

She hasn't replied yet about where we would stay in Ecuador (I think she may want to stay in the resort... but are we going to have to pay?) She speaks poor Spanish, and I'm even worse. She isn't familiar with the country as she has never been before, and from what I am reading, there are a lot of troubles at the Columbian borders.

As for dyeing my hair black... that may be a smart idea. I have reddish blondish brown hair. I think I would stick out, especially with being so pale and small too.

I really don't want to dye it though :(

wotyzoid - have you ever heard of the Galápagos Islands? Or the Andes Mountains? A LOT of people go to Ecuador... in fact it isn't all that uncommon for Americans to retire there.

Anyway, if we go to Ecuador, we'll be in Chugchilán, Cotopaxi up in the Andes Mountains.

One of these four places.

Likely staying here:

Has anyone here ever been to Ecuador? Tell me what you know :)

I lived in ecuador for 3.5 years.. pretty cool

quito is beautiful, cotopaxi is amazing, banos is amazing, the andes are gorgeous- Mindo is also amazing, the cloud forest, amazon as well, but the cloud forest is something really cool, like a higher altitude rainforest

galapagos is ing incredibe- the beaches on the coast be good too, some good waves if you're into that

heard nothing but crazy stories about brazil... some good, some really scary. while ecuador has gotten more dangerous since the dolarization, it's not SO bad...

they filmed proof of life at my friends house across the street :p

Where HAVEN'T you lived???

Why have you lived in so many different places? Are your parents just big travelers? Out of all the places you have lived, where is your favourite?

P.S. Thanks for the reply... one of the only useful ones so far, however I didn't expect anything from the c0r.

:tongue2

haha a bunch of places... i've only lived in 7 or 8 dif cities, but traveled throughout the regions i was living in.

as for my favorite, Tie between Bombay and Lima... but honestly Lima is kind of a hole, i just had some good times with a good crew, all at the right time. i was younger though so it's different.

my dad is a engineer/project manager for onshore and offshore drilling so before the company he was working with moved him every 2, 3 years as a productivity thing. now my parents like in buenos aires and should be there for a while as my dad is working with a dif. company

if you do decide on ecuador let me know, if you have some ideas about some stuff youd like to check out-

went to a very cool ranch over there as well i went to for a 4 day fishing trip, wild horses!

I've spoken to Lira recently. The situation in Brazil is looking grim. I think 500,000 tourists were raped and killed last month alone.

 :stongue:

Kay, let's do the math here, Theresa:

Ecuador - Volcanoes
Brazil - Non-volcanic hotness

Ecuador - About the size of Montreal
Brazil - Pretty much half of the whole continent

Ecuador - Sash!
Brazil - Lira

Trust me... if it were up to me, I would come to Brazil.

P.S. If I do come there, are you going to meet up with me? :)
