This guy should be put to death! (pg. 8)

My issue with the legal system in America is that jail is a pretty good alternative than what a lot of people are living in day to day. Why not break the law if the consequence ends up with you having a roof over your head, food in your stomach, and a place to sleep if you can't provide those things for yourself? I'm unsure if this is a failing of society that homeless people/street people have a worse life outside prison than in prison or a failing of the prisons that people want to go to prison.

Hold on, this is what you said previously...

To me, that does not sound like an 'emotionally charged reaction', that reads as your actual viewpoint. Don't backpedal just because your views have been exposed for the bull that they are.

And how did I take anything out of context? You stated that other prisoners could carry out this 'revenge-torture-justice' bull of yours, and I brought it up. If you were joking or being sarcastic then it must have missed it...

it's more of an emotionally charged response to hearing what the person did.

The fact that you've thought about it for longer than you've known about this case completely removes any possibility of it being solely an "emotionally charged response."

People on the internet don't know you, and all they have to gauge you by is what you say - once again, what you say, what it means, and what you intend to rarely seem to be the same thing.

:stongue:

In both cases where this topic came up, a horrible story was accompanied. I really haven't put more thought into it than the couple of mins it may have taken me to reply when I was outraged by what I had just read.

Apparently everything I say on here is scrutinized far more heavily than the average poster, even when it may be obvious that I am taking the piss or have outright admitted that I was wrong and replied out of emotional response.

What happened to not talking to each other?? Just can't let it go?

You tend to let your idiocy run rampant in what could be interesting threads, that isn't my fault.

Though I have to say, your participation in this thread in particular makes me happy because you have admitted quite openly that you don't think before you speak - you just react and worry about covering your tracks afterwards.

It's nice to see you finally acknowledge it.

my issue with the legal system is that it is extremely outdated and needs to be rewritten to reflect modern society.

Thank you Rob for showing me how wrong I have been. You are so right and I appreciate you showing me the light and imparting your wisdom. I am so blessed to have someone online than can tell me how much of a bumbling moron that I am :) I am forever grateful and will take your insightful words with me wherever I may go.

Thank you sooo much!

Thankfully though this is the 21st century, where people with more common sense than you are in charge of the justice system.

Lurking in this thread... this made me laugh my balls off.

Anyways, isn't revenge what the US is all about... thats why we're slaughtering folks overseas in the desert right?
RJT
I don't really think it's fair to say revenge is just what the U.S. is about, because for every aspect of U.S. justice you can map revenge onto, there's something equally awful, cruel, or absurd that qualifies as revenge in almost any societies justice system.

Insofar as we're talking about "cruel & unusual" punishment, I don't think it's a stretch to say that the bulk of the Middle East is far more despicable with regard to how they punish crimes than almost any Western nation.

"Revenge" based justice is a trait of humanity, not particularly representative of any single nationality.

I was aiming more towards the fact that the whole debacle in the middle east, well... at least this current stint, was sold to the butthurt American public as revenge for 911. And we bought it...
Slylee
my initial reaction to wrongful things done to me is usually vengeful, but then i get over it pretty quickly. i just like to humor myself with vengeful thoughts, but going through with it requires far more energy than i'm willing to put into someone who obviously is useless to me. just move on.

the only kind of vengefulness that is worth it to me is beating someone at their own game such as killing s with kindness and little things like that.
