Some of the stuff in that video anyone can do really. The sword killmag+ in the second video, he would have been dead long ago if people weren't retarded.

all the 1 bullet, triple, double, quad kills are PURE luck but still awesome to see.

the guy super jumping on the top of guardian gets those kills only because no one is expecting him to be there so their movements are very linear and easier to set up, otherwise he's terrible.

non-mlg gametypes and playlist in the video (ffa for example) sure why not!

the sniper no-scopes are acutal skill, with a wee bit of luck.

haha yeah luck does play a big part but u cannot say its not skill...
im personally horrible with the sniper, even finishing a game with 5 or more headshots is a surprise to me..
:p

I have a very hard time taking halo seriousely as an e-sport. I've even been to a live MLG match which was supposed to feature "pros" and I wasn't impressed to the slightest. Such a painfully slow paced and clumsy game with a huge factor of luck and a tiny skill gap. Sure those guys who practice daily can probably beat any noob any day, but beyond that, everything feels incredibly random and it's a total bore to watch.

lol, exactly. Limiting control shortens the skill gap even more.

No one even mentioned the PC. This is a 'halo is a pathetic e-sport' discussion.

Oh I'm sure they can pull of cool moves considering how much they practice. That doesn't make it any more impressive to watch. They're just being proficient at controlling a clumsy joystick. It's a game that requires no intelligence, no tactics, no strategy, just being good at aiming and a whole lot of luck. If people enjoy playing that, that's perfectly fine by me. The point is, from a competitive standpoint, everything about halo is a joke. It's a casual player's game, not a competitive one.

A good competitive game is one that has no skill ceilling and gives plenty of room for a player's skill to affect the outcome of the game (as opposed to limiting them in a great number of ways like halo does). Fast movement, high damage, strategic elements, balanced weapons, and most important of all - minimal luck factor.

I agree with almost everything you said, but I think this here is stretching it. Perhaps the depth of strategy required is far less than that of a hardcore FPS, but saying its downright absent isn't too accurate if you ask me.

It's extremely superficial at best, and I wasn't just comparing it to other FPS games, but esports in general.
inconspicuous
that depends on the level of competition. in games with bad or even average players, yes, it's all about hording power weapons & being amazing at aiming, but by the time you get to top players or pros, strategy and communication play a huge part.
