there are players that just try to be heroes and rush in..

u just cant do that when going against top players..
u gotta have a strategy
(ex: someone hold left elbow, someone guard middle hallway, other take sniper tower...etc..)
and constantly tellin ur team mates where the other team is at and what they are doing..

i leave u with a video to show you just how competitive can get..

Yes I've played shooters before. Like I said this is all incredibly superficial. All FPS games have that at a higher skill level, and the vast majority of them have more of it than halo does. I watched the video and I am still not impressed.

everything in that video is an example of ridiculous aiming/luck. that doesn't mean that those clips exemplify the keys to success in halo.

I would actually say that one of your points, while very accurate, also contributes to my point:

A good competitive game is one that has no skill ceilling and gives plenty of room for a player's skill to affect the outcome of the game (as opposed to limiting them in a great number of ways like halo does).

Yes, there is a noticeable "skill ceiling" in Halo...with respect to overall playing ability. That is the reason that strategy & communication play such a giant role in separating the pros from the casual players. Luck DOES play a role in the game, so you can't win all the time if you are just relying on aiming. The best players create situations where aiming doesn't even begin to develop, because they've already made it unfair for anybody not holding a rocket launcher.

In other words, you're correct if assessing the overall gaming community in Halo--it is a casual player's game. However, this resembles the method of play at the pro level less so than is common for a FPS.

That's hardly enough. It's still a shallow level of strategy - basic positioning, when to engage/back off, stuff like that. Hardly impressive to watch considering the slow pace of the game. The fact that there's any luck involved means the best players don't always win, which is just one of many points which by themselves would be plenty to trash the competitive aspect of the game. Besides, everything about halo's design philosophy goes directly against competitive spirit; slow clumsy movement, auto-aim, everything designed to make the game easier. The only reason there even is a "competitive" scene is because the game is popular, and the game is popular because it's so easy any idiot can pick up a controller, join a game and get a bunch of lucky kills. Then he can feel special because the game arbitrarily gave him an unfair advantage and allowed him to beat a player who's far better than he is. You don't play barbie's dressup pony adventure and pretend it's an esport, which is almost what MLG is doing. It's a very poor attempt by the american market to cash in on something they don't understand.

wow what a weak argument...auto aim?? slow clumsy movement?? are u serious?
i play the game alot and there is NO AUTO-AIM...slow clumsy movement? ever heard of aim sensitivity??
i dont expect master chief to walk around like hes running at top speed...if thats where ur gettin at...
yes luck does play a small factor in it, BUT UR WRONG..u just cant pick up the game, play it for a couple months and expect to kick major ass against top competitors..

and attacking its popularity is another wack argument...try harder next time ;)

look champ, halo IS slow and clumsy compared to any decent PC shooter. you simply cant compare it to games like quake or unreal from a competitive standpoint. inferior in every regard...

yes, so those of us with more than 5 minutes gaming experience wish to point out the fact that from a competitive standpoint halo is a complete joke.

Even having played the ty watered down kids version of UT3 for Xbox, it still felt miles ahead of halo in terms of it's competitive aspects.

actually, halo's popularity can be easily reduced to lack of FPS experience by those that love it, start threads about it or try to argue its a great example of competitive gaming.

good day to you too.
