Is Progressive House the new Trance?
View this Thread in Original format

i've been falling out of the trance scene in the last year or 2, and favouring house. However, i've takin a liking to progressive house (at least as its defined by beatport) As its typically a trancy melody at a slower 130bpm or there-abouts. I find 140bpm very unexciting these days as theres a lot of 'been there done that' and after many years in that scene, am starting to move on.

Just wondering if anyone has fallen in the same path of favouring the progressive house genre to still hold onto their trance fix.
Capo di tutti
In the beginning, there was Jack, and Jack had a groove.
And from this groove came the groove of all grooves.
And while one day viciously throwing down on his box, Jack declared,
"Let there be house!"
and house music was born.
"I am, you see, I am the creator, and this is my house!
And, in my house there is only house music.

I like both, I still love the 135-140 BPM range. But slower stuff is good too like Dash Berlin - Till the sky falls down, Andain - Beautiful Things, etc.

This has been covered a few times in the past and to me I will always remain true to 138+bpm as real "Trance".

Yes the trends are moving and prog house is more and more becoming "modern day trance". I believe it's kind of boring to be honest, the energy isn't the same.

Prog house (trancey prog house) gets a big MEH from me.......:wtf:

its all too slow for me.

I don't really think the bmp count has as much to do with it being trance or prog, as much as the structure. I could have seen this thread started in 2002, when progressive-trance was huge, but not now.

In short, no prog is not the new trance.

Prog HOUSE FTW!!!!!!!!!

epic trance ftw

Yea, I could agree with what you saying. Most of the new trance we hear are on the slower side than it was before... Epic is transitioning into prog. for sure. But, Trance will always be Trance - it's my first love...

prog is good for the soul

TranceGrooves
No.

Prog house is very different than Trance. You cant really compare the 2. It's one thing to not enjoy Trance any more which is quite fine, it happens, but do not compliment it with Prog house. Thats insulting to Trance AND Prog house :)

I voted "no" cuz I still likes my hands-in-the-air epic stuff but the recent Deadmau5 tracks and Gareth Emery podcasts, and even Tiesto podcasts has a lot of prog house which I've been enjoying immensely. I would agree that the popularity of that sound will take over that of epic high-BPM trance (if it hasn't already).
