I'd also like to point out that goa trance isn't really psytrance... and I think progpsy is psytrance (I suppose its kind of like psy-tech... its the other genre but with psy influences and by psy artists) but some people also think that it isn't really psytrance.
So yeh... new example plz?

| All your base are belong to me :D Psy is not dead, and Psy has a lot of variety, imo. If your not really into it, I'm sure if u started to explore it deeper, u could find a bunch of compilations and styles that one would like. Sure some tracks sound almost the same, but its EDM and this applies to all genres. |

the beat is very basic in all of them. its extremely predictable and boring when you're not tripping. , even human beings drumming at a drum circle is more interesting because at least the pattern changes creatively and sporatically instead of a static 4 bars or whatever the frequency of changes are in psy tracks. the kick drum in most psy sounds very similiar, sounds like they're all using a 909.
the name is psy trance as in psychedelic trance, as in this is music for a psychedelic experience. any music that ties itself so closely to one particular state of mind is no longer an artform and becomes just druggie music. |

What are you after in dance music? You might as well complain about how dance tracks basically never change time signature or use chromaticism, or the fact that they don't follow sonata form.

The fact that music is simple doesn't mean that it sucks, unless you're just some snob with your head too far up your ass to have fun. The vast majority of EDM is musically piss-simple compared to classical or even a lot of moderately competent rock music. Does that mean it sucks? Your call I guess, but I say no. |

i agree EDM is simple, most of it has one mission ... make you move. but there comes a point when it becomes too simple. like nothing but a metronome, most will agree, is too simple. psy is not too far removed from that in the beat department. most other forms of EDM will embelish around the kickdrum with polyrhythms, changing patterns, changing the tone of percussion elements throughout a track, etc. psy? no, psy doesnt do this. |

Oh comon sif Shiva Chandra is predictable:stongue: . Anyway... I don't see how its any more predictable than house/trance/pretty much anything else that isn't some weird form of idm or something. Right so your posting here about how you've just become jaded by all edm. "Polyrthmns+some stuff I don't really understand" well sure theres plenty of nice high hat patterns, breaks, bassline changes etc that happen in quality psy. Have a listen to IM-The gathering. Quality stuff, what you've been complaining about seems to be the same old full on psy sucks/all psy is full on psy argument. Theres tons of other stuff ya know. Also stuff like IM the gathering is going to sound boring, cliche, random and simple if you listen to it once while tired. Then you realise its none of those things. Trippin balls or not.
