Indeed. Unfortunately, these days I almost always assume the opposite.
For many folks (and I'm not saying this is movingincircles at all) I don't think the appeal of DJ'ing goes all that far beyond being "the idiot tossing on a few records in a club", only they phrase it in terms of "I'm going to be the king of the castle and rock the out of this place with my 50 Cent/Darude mashup! Thank god I practiced my Jesus pose, the bitches are going to eat that up!"

I think that a lot of people who go to clubs don't really care much about the skill level of the DJ, unless maybe he just plays trainwreck after trainwreck or something. I've seen some DJs who either couldn't play or didn't care get crowds going simply with their attitude.
