Does anyone know if Heath Ledger finished shooting his scenes or what?

| I'm fairly sure they're pushing the release of the movie back a few years because Heath Ledger died (in case you didn't know - he's dead). |

I was always under the impression that they used a baby elephant mixed with a tiger and an alligator to recreate Heath's voice, and whale's blow for his breath.
