Want to find out if it was in an accident? Look at the upper hood frame rails. Those are the most telling areas of repair. Also, check to see if the radiator has been replaced, look at the pain from bumper to fenders to doors. If the paint appears to have a different texture to it, it has been in an accident.
Also, carfax is only 65% accurate as of a recent rating. Oh and post on a car forum about the carfax. There is always someone on there that has an account. |

yup good info. Don't just check the hood though, that goes for all fender joints and door/trunk jams or drains for overspray and or different colors. A flooded vehicle won't show u anything unless u check the undercarriage. The Cobalt is a buy, unless u plan to resell it. Carfax is crap too as it can only tell u whats been reported. With all the private mechanic and body shops around that don't report repairs, its kinda useless. |

Well the front end is the most likely place for an accident. I have friends that do the salvage thing all the time, and by far, front end collisions consist of probably 75% of all crashes, if not more. Rear end damage isn't as bad as front end either most of the time. |

Lol, your a trip. I used to work in body shops bro, and that makes no sense. Theres more to vehicle damages than someone driving head on into an object or another car. Tons of cars come in for rear and quarter repairs all day long. |

I didn't say that quarters aren't done either. The point was that most of the damage done to cars is front end. Period.
Anyways to the op, also check under the carpet on the floor under one of the foot wells of the driver or passenger sides. This is a common place for rust of a flooded car.
Also, once you have a car fax report, check the states it visited. Certain states, like Arizona, Oregon, and a bunch of others, you can do what is called "title washing." This is the act of "washing" the title of the "salvage" or "rebuilt" title. They are cracking down on this, but not as much as you would think. |

This is something of an impulse purchase, but the deal seems too good to be true (asking $9000 for a 2007 Chevy Cobalt, 27k miles). It drives perfectly and seems to be in great shape but obviously I can't tell if there has been any serious damage to it in the past. I would like to know for certain that I'm not getting a lemon.
