Unfortunately, its always the bad apples that ruin the fun for everyone....doesn't matter what type of event it is....maybe the police should do their job and arrest idiots who are publicly doing illegal activities....maybe then things would clean up a little.

Maybe I just didn't 'do pride' enough this year. But all in all, I didn't see /that/ much worth causing a fuss over. Then again, I've never been to the parade portion of pride.

But from beer gardens / street wandering / etc - a few people taking things a little too far, but that happens at just about any big party / festival.

And while within Toronto, we may have come a long way in terms of acceptance / tolerance, there are people who travel from all over the world and come from cities / towns which are not as liberal as Toronto is. For them, pride still means something more than 'just a big party', but one of the few times a year they can really 'be gay' and not have it be an issue for them.

Funny though, so many people on this forum bitch about police doing their job by say, arresting people driving high, stopping people for speeding on the highway, shutting down illegal parties, raiding comfort zone, with various arguments like "I'm not hurting anyone", or "everyone is doing it", or "so what if someone likes to smoke a bit of pot"

But, when they start to break the law in some way that they find offensive (ie: walking down the street flapping their penis about), its now "omg, why arnt the police doing their job?!", when they would probably flip out if the police did their job and took away their open booze in public, or fined them for smoking a joint in a beer garden.

I am in favour of police enforcing all laws when people are breaking those laws in plain site for everyone to see. I could care less what kind of event it is....like I said before...if I walked around naked at the Santa Claus Parade I would be arrested in a second....so why shouldn't the same apply for a Gay Pride Parade....be proud to be whoever you are....but respect others and the law.

I can just see the police station turning into something from a porn movie as all the naked gay men get tossed into the slammer. *laugh*

But then, should the police be arresting just about /everyone/ who attends the Cannabis march? While on a purely legal note - they should. However, in terms of practicality - manpower, resources, space, and the fact they are not really harming anyone doesn't make it worth the effort.

Or what about busting anyone who shows up with some booze at the beach - wouldn't there be a bit of an outrage of a Promise @ Cherry Beach on Sundays got shut down because of people drinking booze and smoking weed? That's illegal also.

2) If nothing is going to change in 2008 whats the point of having a parade?
