to be perfectly honest G... I've already began saving money, checking flights, and cities that are holding matches, and hotel accomodations... here it goes...

FLIGHTS:

the earliest any airline will book is about 11 months prior to the date of departure. It's about a 20 hour or so flight to Johannesburg. and will cost somewhere around $3000 round trip. from what i've found on major airlines at least.

LOCATIONS:

Host Cities on the ocean = Cape Town, Nelson Mandela Bay/Port Elizabeth, and Durban
Host Cities inland = Mangaung/Bloemfontein, Johannesburg, Rustenburg, Nelspruit, Tshwane/Pretoria, and Polokwane

there are 10 stadiums holding matches in the 9 cities... Johannesburg has 2 stadiums.

Johannesburg, Rustenburg, and Pretoria are all within an hour or less driving distance of each other. Everything else is pretty spread out.

TICKETS:

tickets packages are being set up now, and ticket sales will be open to the public sometime in 2009, with ticket distribution occurring in 2010. I'm guessing it's going to be very very expensive, probably a few hundred per ticket.

They are going to print about 3,000,000 tickets for the 64 matches.
1,000,000 go to sponsors, the teams, and the FIFA family
1,000,000 go to international visitors (us)
1,000,000 go to South Africa (to be spread throughout Africa as a whole)

ACCOMODATIONS:

South Africa is bordered by Mozambique, ZImbabwe, Botswana, Namibia, Swazilnad, and the nation of Lesotho is located within the borders.

Personally, I suggest staying in a city that has a stadium, just to make things easier. I dont think anyone wants to be stuck traveling through Africa more than they have to.

based on my initial calculations, a 2 person room for a month will cost something like $2000 give or take... the few hotels i found with websites that gave room rates was something like 75-100 bucks a night for a standard room with 2 beds.

OTHER:

1 US dollar us currently worth about 8 South African Rand
fifa.com has some sort of hospitality program you can register for

anything else I left out can probably be found at www.fifa.com/worldcup

there it is... I'm so freaking serious about going.

hey, if people are serious then i'm all for coordinating a group trip... i know for a fact that hotels and airlines give discounted rates to large groups (25+ im guessing).

we've got 2 years to get a group together, etc. the more the merrier. maybe there are whole houses to rent... then someone could bring their CDJ's and we wouldnt ever have to leave!!

plus, ive always wanted to go on an African safari.. really really bad. there is so much to do when out of the country. im getting more and more excited every day

when FIFA is looking for back-ups to RSA in 2010, then you know the signs aren't good...
