I use American Express > every $10 = 1 airmile. i might have to switch... |
i went on shoulder seasons oct-dec or march-may and it was 40,000 Aadvantage points each ticket from yyz to eze. I think taxes were $90 which is still better than all the add ons aeroplan wants :)
I exchanged 20K starwood points to get 25K Advantage points.
Pretty cool |

so if it was 40 000 points did they give you 5000 bonus points for every 20 000? |

| really happy about this thread cuz I've been meaning to get a new credit card....I'm currently using the GM visa which I think is the absolute worst card ever since I'll never buy a GM car so the points are useless.... |

5000 bonus after first purchase
5000 bonus when you stay at a starwood hotel (Sheraton, westin etc)
5000 bonus everytime you spend 10K in a calendar year (this makes your actual value 1:1)
|
The first purchase and first stay bonus are one time only (to clear things up)
the 5000 bonus everytime you spend $10K is only up to $30,000. You can only get 15,000 bonus points per year. So it's not really 1:1. After you reach the $30,000 limit, the card isn't a great deal and you would be better using another card that does give you 1:1 accumulation. I use the SPG card up to $30K and then use my AMEX after that. |

when you transfer 20K points from the mastercard into your airline program they kick in the extra 5000 points.
so when i transferred 50K points i got a 10K bonus.
Good for pretty much any airline except of course, air canada |

GM visa was good back int he day until they put on award caps and redemption restrictions. I once saved 4 grand on a car! But now you can only redeem up to 1500 per vehicle last i checked so i ditched that card years ago. They also started to charge an annual fee which i also refuse to pay. |

Since i use my crappy tire card as well i never get up to 30K a year on that card so im quite happy spreading the spending around. But you are right, if you use it at high volume its best to get another card as well as long as you dont pay an annual fee.
Annual fees are only worth IF you have outrageous spending. For instance, if im going to pay $120 per year I had better be spending enough on that card to get a trip to europe every year out of it. For that most people would need to use it for business expenses. |

| RBC Avion for the past 3 years but I'll be switching to TD's new travel points card soon. TD has the added flexibility of buying tickets from any vendor while RBC forces you to use Carlson Wagonlit which is a ripoff agent. |
