End of the line for 1015? (pg. 3)

| You all should understand like it's been stated before that it's upper management that has been taking the club down as of late. It comes down to them not booking headliners to draw the crowd which makes a difference, especially in an area like 1015 that isn't premier like Ruby Skye. Plus it's not even like 1015 is in a bad area at all. There's not much around there other than the End Up down the block. |

Seems like the talent keeps getting better and better at 1015..
a few nights of splitting the club into two clubs to make better use of the space seems like a smart choice especially when the numbers aren't there on Saturdays..
lets see what we have coming up and what we just had..
PVD-
Oakenfold
Tipper
Infected Mushroom
Adam Freeland
sebastian (ed banger)
Dj Medhi (ed banger)
shpongle
quite a few major psy parties...
big dubstep nights
richie hawtin (damn that was good)
buning man precompression
collie budz
miss kitten and the hacker..
Plus some other big talent we cant mention till we cross the t's and dot the i's..
hopefully we will see the music getting more and more diverse at 1015..
might not be your cup of tea every week.. but then hey variety is the spice of life.. |

3tlk, thanks for your input, and everyone else who is on this thread providing their thoughts and such. I hope to meet you sometime when your at 1015 one of these days. I will always be an advocate for the club, either positive or negative. Sorry for the long post everyone, so if your not interested in reading, pass this one up.
Most of us have chosen to make 1015 our home and club of choice every weekend, for some of us, There will be far and few between other venues you will see us at. While we still go to some, but 1015 is home...
No, 1015 is not on its way out. As much as many people may think, there is change, how long it will be depends on the active audience that 1015 receives. In the end EDM will reign supreme as the choice music amongst other genres that come and go.
We should all be fortunate that many of us have local S.F. DJ’s & some of you from L.A. are even given a chance a place to play at and listen to EDM, especially in San Francisco. With 2 Superclubs like Ruby Skye and 1015, there is definitely choice we have. Not to mention other venues like Mezzanine, Temple, Slide, Mighty, Mezzanine, etc, etc.... there are so many clubs who have tried to appeal to an audience like 1015 and Ruby Skye.
Change...
Working with Taj has definitely taught me alot, most importantly...
PATIENCE...
The experience I have earned there has allowed me to work with some of the world’s greatest Dj’s, especially ones I have looked up to for many years as a club goer, raver, attendant... Opportunities I would not have if not for Taj & 1015. I’ve been blessed with earning some respect from all of you, and befriended many who have come and gone in these exciting years.
There are alot of aspects that go into making 1015 what it is. Things that generally go overlooked not because of fault, but inexperience. After being a part of the club as a Dj, fortunately I have also learned alot about the club including sound, lighting, how things work at the club including why things don’t. Most of the knowledge I have learned is directly from Marie, the former Tech who basically built 1015. Things like Why the laser doesn’t work all the time... How come that freaking Disco ball doesn’t work like it did 4 years ago, How come, how come, how come...?
In simple terms, minor adjustments are happening, while still maintaining a harmony not only with club attendants, but surrounding neighbors that live in luxury condos behind 1015. There is a new sound and lighting guy that I have been working with at the club that has been making extensive changes to the lighting, repairing things that are broken, including the soundweb. Those of you who remember Marie will know that when she was on board, everything at the club worked pretty much perfectly, including sound, lighting, mixers and equipment.
1015 has a special computer controlled soundweb that controls each room at the club. This soundweb is set up for each room, to a delimiter, from the outs on the mixer to the soundweb. that limits the sound at a certain decibel to turn down the sound AUTOMATICALLY. This is so that the sound remains crisp, and clean, and the bass is not dry and enough fill in the room. Depending on the Dj who is spinning, and what he is using, is what you are going to hear.
DJ’S!!! If you REDLINE or if you see Red on the limiter, Turn the gain down gradually, the sound will fix itself. If its distorting, its because you are redlining. If your the Dj, and it sounds like , doesn’t that tell you that your doing something wrong, or maybe you should think outside of the box and ask someone how it sounds?
Bashing the booth? Are you kidding me?? One of the only fully customized booths in San Francisco made of pure acrylics, with interchangeable lighting throughout, complete with a private bathroom? Where else in San Francisco can you go to Dj at where it’s that plush… Believe me, Artists are taken care of. Each one I have encountered have told me they personally love the club and the booth.
Djs who are coming to play at 1015 or any other clubs in the world do not understand the architecture of the soundweb or what a club’s sound system limits are. Push it and its gonna make you sound like .
Do not blame 1015 for the sound being bad---BLAME THE “AMETUER DJ!!!”
Are you forgetting that if you burn a cd from a Mp3 that’s at 192 or less it’s going to sound like ? Some Djs who play at the club do not realize this aspect, thus the sound coming out from what is played sounds like . This can happen at any venue, not only at 1015 or Ruby. I have heard it at Raves, House parties, etc...
Not everyone who plays at 1015 is educated on sound, and playing at 1015 is unlike any other club in San Francisco. Since the refresh of the soundweb last week, the sound is currently being tuned, and last Saturday night’s sound for CyberSutra was A+ throughout the club. The bass was shaking the floors at the club. It was good to feel that again since it been a while.
In terms of the Menno show, changing out the mixer right before the room opens up wasn’t a smart move. I personally do not like Pioneer mixers. This caused a problem with the sound, and also did not give time to our sound engineers to properly tune the sound for the night. Sound check prior to the mixer change proved it to be ok with the Allen & Heath. It’s vital that when setting things up at 1015, that things be checked properly. Especially before and after live acts that fall the day before.
The way I see it also, you should also be wearing ear protection wherever you go at ANY venue.
One important aspect you have to remember is those of you who pursue Djing at 1015 have to understand like other venues, 1015 does not have a built in crowd. I’ve said this time and time again, if you don’t promote, people will not come to the club. Why would you want to play to an empty space when you can do that at home, or at your studio? .
Security at 1015? Don’t complain. Every idiot that does something stupid at 1015 (or many other venues) gets what they deserve. Especially being thrown out if you’re selling something, starting a fight or think your hard . I have never felt so protected, and thankful that 1015 is one of the few clubs that we can actually feel safe at. Feel fortunate that we have security that takes the time to actually help you be & feel safe.
While not everyone has nice things to say about everyone, I'll always have love for everyone, the scene, etc... The way I view things is there should be no boundaries between the music. But there is. There’s always politics that come into play because someone else is big headed than the other person. There is always someone out there that wants to outdo someone else. There is always a party that is being thrown somewhere that you’re gonna wanna attend, whether it be at 1015 or Ruby Skye, Temple... Etc...
1015 will be keeping the EDM no matter what...PERIOD!!!
And no, we do not close as stated by AmericnWldChild. Consistently, 1015 closes its doors sometimes at 8AM the next morning with Dj’s who are playing upstairs when the mainroom closes at 5,6, or 7AM.
While everyone will have opinions on where to go, and what the best club is to attend, I won’t allow myself this and say this. There is a simple answer, and that’s choice. You have a choice to go to each venue and check it out for yourself. Don’t rely on others to tell you where to go but make your own decisions on where to go...
Hope some questions were answered here…
Ruby Skye VS 1015 in terms of space? 1015's capacity can house 2,500+, to 1,500 at Ruby Skye. Comfortable space and room to move is bliss to alot of us, especially since I don’t have to worry about running into someone accidentally and spilling a drink all over them to cause a fight.
Consistently, 1015 is the only nightclub every weekend to continually provide San Francisco different venues of EDM for each room. House, Trance, Minimal, Trance, Breaks, Progressive... And even Breaks & D &B all under one roof.
I would like to thank everyone again for coming to our events, especially ones where I’ve been fortunate enough to be the opening dj or headlining. Its real fun meeting all of you especially some of the new TA's I have met over the last few weeks, at 1015. Its also been an honor to play with all of you, as everyone that has been booked has REAL talent behind the decks. Maybe everything I stated here won’t really make an impact, maybe you guys don’t really care for what I have to say, but no one person can please everyone.
AmericnWldChild, what other clubs have you been to in the US? Have you ever come to 1015, and when was the last time you came through? Who are some of these headliners who you’ve spoken to because I would like to know since I’ve met and worked with many who have graced our mainroom.
progressiveMOJO, hopefully one of these days when your at 1015, ill get the chance to run into you. I’m wondering if you were the big ass guy in line a few years back I met inline for Lovefest?
A Superclub like 1015 that’s been providing Dance Music and EDM for 20 years I highly doubt will be going anywhere anytime soon.
One last thing, those of you who are voting for the best nightclub this year especially at WMC, Id be surprised to see 1015 on the ballot. From my understanding it’s not even the ballot... |

i'm 6'1" and 145lbs and don't do massives so probably not lol. one of these days I'm gonna make it up for Local Love (finally), will have to meet up with ya then or the next time 1015 books someone I like.
believe me, 1015 has impressed me in a lot of ways and I do understand that it's always at least partly the DJ's fault when a sound system overloads (cause frankly there's this thing called the "Master Level" knob on every mixer that exists). I always bring earplugs with me regardless of if I wear them, and I consider it good advice for anyone who cares about their hearing and physical comfort. Sometimes they're unnecessary, but they've saved me lots of pain and hearing loss over the years. I hope you understand that to me, my complaints are all relatively minor and NONE of them are things I consider deal-breakers for a club. Also a little tongue in cheek, cause while I'd love to smoke a blunt in the middle of a dance floor I realize why the venue doesn't take that risk and why security is needed for other things than keeping out drugs. Bottom line is it's a good club even with its problems and I've never been there and not had a good time. I hope it keeps getting better but nothing there keeps me from enjoying myself. |

If 1015 were to have the same concept as Fridays have, in regards to consistently booking talent that draws numbers, promotes (MARKETS) hard like "outside" promoters do, adds decor & some other minor attributes there would be consistent growth. Considering most Saturdays are Locally DJ driven night's, they have been the drive for success for the club. & successful nights they are due to Local S.F. DJ's driving them.
1015 you forgot to mention in the past months, Saturday nights have featured some of the best in well known world wide talent such as...
Menno De Jong
Sean Tyas
Ronski Speed
Darude
Yahel
Adam Sheridan
Filo & Perti
In reference to the title of this thread...(which was the point, not ranting about venues likes or dislikes)
1015 is not dead. It is alive & well as you can see with the individual who posted under the 1015 title.
We @ 1015 strive to keep you the audience happy & content. We @ 1015 do all we can to keep it as exciting as possible in the ever changing times. 21+ years alive i might add.
One way or another 1015 will always be a staple venue in S.F. for EDM while experimenting & "testing" with different genres from time to time.
My own personal opinion on all the rants is simple...If you don't support, your voice is meaningless. |

1015 is by far my favorite place to party, however as of late the sound is always turn down to low, so low that you can hear the chatter of the people around you. I remember reading a while back how 1015 was having sound issues with the City and the neighbors. The reason I go out to the club is for the music and to me trance should always be played loud but when I say loud I don’t mean ear ringing bad adjusted sound systems that give you that buzzing sound for days after partying.
Blurr, when you say amateur DJ's have a lot to do with the sound being so low, I would assume that might be a possibility, however I have experienced the bad/low quality on nights with such talent as Above & Beyond, Menno de Jong, Sean Tyas (Live recording), Paul van Dyk, Blurr(You :)) and many others, so if these DJ's cant help the sound, then I have zero faith on others to make the sound system sound loud and clear.
So to me the biggest reasons I have been staying away from 1015 is the sound and my wallet :(
The Economy might also be hurting the club, I mean I barely go out now, the reason is because it cost too much, GAS, parking, cover, and alcohol, a good night could end up costing $200+ :nervous:
Anyway Taj I hope that you are able to work with Management/City to resolve the issues and keep 1015 alive! It would truly be a sad day for EDM in the Bay Area if we loose this legendary club. I mean I guess people don’t see how having more places to listen to quality music is good for us all. Both Ruby Skye and 1015 offer us unique atmospheres and we all have had great moments at both clubs, so let the moments keep coming.
I remember how motivated Taj was recently asking us for what we thought the club needed, who we wanted to see and now to see threads like this discussing the end of the club is scary.
I hope that management at 1015 gives Taj the power to keep booking, as well as invest back into the club and update the main room.
Good Luck and you have my support!! |

cant complain about 1015, one of the best places to have a great time, people are awesome.
just like any business 1015 has its ups and downs.
rubyskye's security scares me honestly someone can just walk in with a gun.
1015's security makes me feel safe.
and them playing hip hop in the main room is a little weird but
what the hell just follow the music to another room, problem solved.
i started clubbing barely last year and everyone told me to go to rubyskye that it was the best and honestly the music was okay but i agree with it being too loud i couldnt even talk to my friends.
and the parking prices were ridiculus 30.00.
1015 feels like a place where u can have a great time and have no drama with anyone, and you can kick back with the djs, some dj's are s at other clubs and dont acknowledge you at all.
i highly recommend 1015 |

I think Taj hit it on the nail on the point that I was originally trying to say but the thread has diversed to a rant about Ruby Skye and 1015.
As a EDM fan, what can we do to help 1015 realize the need to book headliners of the same 'ranking' that Ruby Skye is attracting? I hate to use the word ranking, but I think you get the idea. When it comes down to it, I already get to see the locals open/close for headliners. For those that don't live in the city, it is hard to convince yourself to drive in to see locals spinning.
Part of this I am sure is because I am not in the business side of it. In other cities with multiple super clubs, is it normal for the BIG headliners to switch venues? I remember when Christopher Lawrence, Blank and Jones, Above and Beyond, and numerous others seemed to make 1015 there headquarters in SF. Is this all just part of booking or are there some other underlying factors? Does PvD have some sort of residency with 1015 or does he choose to spin at 1015? |

my 2 cents:
for me, going out to a nightclub just needs to involve some quality music. i could really care less who plays it (headliners don't really bring me out more then any other). if the dj plays a great track, and doesnt trainwreck or distort the sound in some really aweful way.. im lovin it regardless of who's plying it. you want to hear menno, above & beyond, tyas.. im sure taj or blurr or some local will play some of their tracks at some point in the night. and thats what it should be about.. is music and the vibe. as far as 1015 is concerned.. it's the OWNER who doesn't know sh*t about edm, and is trying different solutions to boost revenue for the club. once he figures out one solution doesnt work and another might, things will once again change. from a business aspect, having local nights makes logical sense.. its cheaper, etc. but what really needs to happen is a boost of revenue (ie, people actually COMING to the local nights) for one to consider forking up money for headliners, dope fliers, etc. it's all about support. 1015 isn't going anywhere.. (there's still going to be the people that show up to just about any event to hear some quality tunes, dance, get their buzz on, and hang with friends) it's just one of those things that involves constant change. and as far as ruby skye is concerned.. yah.. i go there. but i would say at least half the people there don't even know why they're there.. they have no clue who the dj is playing.. it's just got a supreme location, and it's just a "dance club". they can have local djs there, and the club would probably still pack out with a bunch of douches spilling their drinks all over everyone else. i guess it's a choice of personal preference.

car pool with friends, get a bottle (its cheaper that way if you split it with friends), and it comes with free entry. not even close to $200!:wtf:
i don't know what you would consider a "good night" but i would be happy sitting in a babypool with a solid boom box, good tunes, a bottle and good friends anyday.
