Okay... I want to get a pretty decent laptop. I don't know that much about computers. I want something that runs programs like ableton and serato scratch with no hangups. Should I get a mac or a pc? Is it true I can run PC apps on a mac now? Any advice...

Ask Matt about having a Mac book. You can run PC apps on a Mac, but the performance isn't what they advertise. Acer makes good laptops that aren't just ridiculously priced.

all right. thanks. yea, i'm not interested in games or anything. i just want something really fast and reliable. it would mostly be used for microsoft office and serato scratch. i don't need it for anything else.

Dell Vostro,

it's their new business class model. Thing is freakin WORKHORSE and is a STEAL for the money.

I got the 15" model for my wife when she went back to school.

Core 2 Duo processor
DVD burner,
Media card reader,
Internal wireless AND bluetooth connectivity
9 hour extended battery
I think like 6 usb ports
2GB of ram
160GB hard drive

all for like 600 bucks

really nice lil laptop, I'm prolly gonna pickup the 17" version for myself

What happened to your other one? The Dell.

Buy an Inspiron man. I love it and can switch between XP and Vista without having to activate it because they use OEM discs, which rules. Just get a good processor and buy your RAM aftermarket to save cash. Its easy to install.

Don't get intergrated graphics, even if you don't play games.

The Vostro is the same thing as the inspiron, just doesnt look as pretty on the outside, very plain jane, but its what's on the inside that counts.

you build an inspiron with the same specs as a base model vostro you'll wind up paying almost a G more.

Not necessarily. I had a $349 off coupon on any Inspiron over $1250 and mine was a scratch over $900. The Vostro might have a better price point, but the Inspiron gets all the coupons.

Computers are , don't get one. Trust me, I use one at work.

LMAO thanks packer

Dave, I still have my inspiron. I keep it at the office though and would rather have a personal one. Plus, this one seems to have slowed down as time wore on - might be my imagination. I just want something fast that runs basic applications. And I am totally with you on the non-integrated graphics. It blows on the laptop I have.

they may get more coupons but if you can get the same machine (the insides anyway) cheaper (even WHEN the inspiron has coupons) why wouldnt ya?

just my .02 :P

but in all fairness I bargain hunted like crazy to find the deal I got on mine.

No. Unless you're running Logic and using Ableton like Sasha, I don't think it's worth it.

Brando, the Vostro was more expensive for the config I requested. Granted, that was when the latest chipset had just come out.
