| I know this isn't close to the city, but Lake Carmel in Putnam County is good place to go fishing for bass. If I remember correctly, I had to get a fishing license (obviously) as well as a license from the DEP because of 9/11. Just don't go fishing in the dark because the bats try to eat your bait when you cast. |

welp, i went out to central park today and tried casting my rod at the Lake as well as the Harlem Meer. Caught 2 decent sized smallmouths at the Lake, and one at the Meer. Not bad for the city! Def. going again.
lol the look on people's faces when they see you pull actual fish from central park waters is awesome :stongue: |

no doubt no doubt. My dad's comin up from trenton this weekend so we are going to check out pompton lakes and do some exploring. I'll MOS DEF let you know about the results. i usually fish the delaware for smallies in lambertville and new hope. I am seriously looking into a six to eight hour float trip around easton south on the Big D. Are you mobile for a meet up?

smallmouths in Central Park Lake!!! Pics or STFU lol. That lake seems far to shallow and hot for smallies......but I guess anything is possible. I was walking the park last week and I you not I saw about a 21-23 inch largemouth cruising the shoreline........my jaw hit the ground.....man I wish I had my rod with me at that moment.
I'd also like to take an ultra light out there and catch one of those huge carp on a dough ball :eyes: |

| on a tangential note, does anyone have any recommendations regarding pond/lakefront campsites? i'm looking for a spot that's swim-friendly and am willing to drive up to two hours away from the city. |

I've camped in Swartswood State Park numerous times. The lake is a five min walk from the campsites. It's swim-friendly and they offer row boat & kayak rentals. I really like this park because it has clean bathrooms & showers compared to other campgrounds I've been to. Here's the link http://www.state.nj.us/dep/parksandforests/parks/swartswood.html
Check out Worthington State Forest as well. Some of their campsites are located right along the Delaware River. Sites #13-15 and a couple of others are right by the water. I went camping there when it was 90+ degree weekend and all I did was stay in that river to escape the heat.

If you're willing to travel a bit further check out Lake George. The campsites are only accessible by boat. Didn't get the chance to go yet, but heard good things.
