Fishing in NYC

So I love fishing but haven't been since my prime fishing days back in high school. Last weekend I made my way out to the Promised Land State Park in Pennsylvania and got some proper fishing time in, which completely rekindled my passion for the sport. But the thing is I live in the city and I'm guessing there aren't a lot of fishing options around. I hear you can fish the Lake in central park but that's kind of ... weird lol. Any fishermen among the NYTAs here? I'd love to hear any advice anyone can give on the best fishing options if you're stuck living in the city.

make friends with someone who has a boat in greenport. you'll be catching fish in no time.

You can fish for stripers in the Hudson north of the GWB. Ive caught a couple over 25 lbs. up there in the past.

John Finley walkway on the upper east side near Gracie Mansion is also a decent spot on the east river for blues and striped bass, Ive seen people pull out eels, porgies, snappers etc too.

You can fish right from the shore or there are a number of charter boats available..

You can also jump on the LIRR and head out to Freeport on Long Island.. Theres fishing charters that head out daily and you dont need to bring any gear if you dont want to.. Its all included.

FISH ON!

i went fishing 2 weeks ago on a boat out by jones beach
which was pretty good i caught 2 nice flukes
and the boat stays mainly in the bay
it dont go out that far in the ocean where the waves are really big and the water is choppy
so thats kind of a suggestion i guess

Hahahaa, we got plenty of them up here. Hopefully if you stay up here for the duration We can go to the beach and get some stripers. It's only a few minute drive away. Maybe we could catch that monster shark thats been sited off RI.

Also, Stanvoid. Come up to Rhode Kill mate, as well as all the madness We do a lot of fishing also. Last year Brian Toia went out and caught Sunday dinner for us all, plus We got trout and atlantic salmon in our river..

i always see people fishing at battery park but never saw them catch anything. ive been having good luck at jones beach and the bridges around there. fluke, stripers, and blue fish. you can also catch weakfish which is great eating. use a fish-finder rig on the beach with either bunker or clams for bait.....best durring the first few hours of high tide. fish the bridges with white bucktails tipped with a pork strip or a white shad.......go heavy (at least 1 once) to get it down deep.

good luck and tight lines!

Some good advice here! I think I'll check out one of these boating trips, they sound like fun and not too expensive (35 bucks for 4 hours of fishing on a boat, that's decent). I think i'll also check out the Lake in central park too, from what I've read it actually sounds like a decent option :p

Steven - thanks for the invite man! Unfort. i've got work this weekend and will be stuck in the city. Sounds like fun though damn.
