Yes the new one fail miserably compared to the "golden age" (seasons 4 to 8), but they stayed funnier a helluvalot longer than Family Guy did.
As for shock factor & outright laughs b/c "I can't believe they just did that" Southpark holds a strong lead right now (witness the World of Warcraft episode or the Gays in Boyscouts criple fight lol).
American Dad is just a recycled series of b-list Family Guy jokes with racial/political overtones tossed in.
Robot Chicken is doing the job but starting to run out of steam it seems.
So when I need to laugh at a cartoon, I reach for my Simpsons dvd's & laugh until I've had my fill.
Cheers!

There are also a lot of English references in Family Guy that you peeps won't get

I rarely watch any of these unless the person I am with is watching them.
Choosing any of them I would say South Park.
Call me a nerd but I prefer TV that has educational, 'design' or food content.
ie. HGTV . TLC . Discovery . History . Biography . FOOD network .

There's a South Park Live show today in 2h at the just for laughs festival and i just heard about it
Trey and Matt will be there doing shenanigans and I'll miss that :( :( :( :(
Can't find anyone to go, should I go by myself :o ??

I liked South Park back in Grades 6-8, but it's not my thing anymore. I watch Family Guy most regularly, but Robot Chicken is probably my favourite because some of the things they come up with are pure class.

South Park wins hands down.. It's an incredibly smart show, even though most people fail to recognize that... Plenty of hidden messages and mockeries of governments/celebs/religions, PLENTY...
Family guy used to be good 6 years ago... Yeah, there are good jokes here and there these days too.. But to watch an entire episode for one good "Remember the time" joke (with commercials too) is pretty absurd, and retarded... Also, to know the celebs they mention in their jokes, you must be a guru in watching 12 hours of extreme cheese a day - not me!
Here's one of my favorite episodes = Le Petit Tourettes, where Cartman couldn't control what he said (min. 1:30 - awesome):

I am one of the biggest fans ever of The Simpsons. Hands down the best animated series in television history and has paved the way for the rest of the shows mentioned here.
With that said, I voted for South Park because, as was mentioned, the majority of Simpsons episodes for the last several years have been borderline horrible. South Park is still consistently putting out fantastic episodes that have me in stitches. Those guys also continue to push the boundaries of comedy with great satire and intelligent writing.
Family Guy is still great for a chuckle, but it has definitely lost it's initial charm. I don't know about up there, but in the states reruns are on about 8 times a day. I do find myself flipping over during commercials of whatever I'm watching to catch some of the classic jokes, flashbacks, and one liners. It's nice, because you definitely don't have to see an entire episode for a joke to grab you.
I love American Dad. The jokes are mostly recycled from those shows listed above, but the interesting characters and some funny plots make the show a good watch once per week.
I tried and tried, but never could get in to Futurama. I know a lot of people who like it so I guess I'm missing something.
Robot Chicken is certainly not a cartoon, but I'll be damned if it's not some of the funniest 15 minutes you can spend in front of a tv.

I maintain that Robot Chicken is close enough to a cartoon to warrant inclusion. Lots of it is actually animated, just not the characters and some of the sets.
Among the other choices, I'd have to go with South Park, with Futurama being a distant 2nd.
For political and social satire, South Park is to the Simpsons what Monty Python is to Keeping Up Appearances. The latter are clever, never crossing the line, on occasion eliciting a few chuckles. The former are silly, obnoxious, offensive, straight to the point, and completely hilarious as long as you understand what's being satirized (and often even if you don't).
Futurama tried to pick up where the Simpsons left off, and for a while it actually succeeded, but after a few seasons it became obvious that the characters were just too one-dimensional for it to become a classic. Bender was the most versatile character (ironic that the robot had the most depth), Fry and Leela started to irritate me after a while (a lazy loser and an emotionally fragile bitch - how zen), and the professor and Zoidberg were funny but only as bit parts. The others were fairly unmemorable.
IMO the other shows basically bite the big one now. American Dad was just a cheap knock-off of Family Guy, and Family Guy took the random interruptions and "like that time when" formula way too far. The show was brilliant when it was fresh, and they actually had good characters, but they just kept reusing the same jokes. What a waste.
And the Simpsons, well... they really should have quit while they were ahead. They've jumped about 12 sharks by now.
