| if ur driving into detroit, just make sure u take the tunnel instead of the bridge cos it seems like the tunnel isnt as strict (for lack of a better word to call what the US customs s do) |

For someone who has lived in Windsor her whole life. I have never been pulled in at the bridge, whereas I have a number of times at the tunnel. So I wouldn't trust that. |

Ya...it's SOO touch and go. You have absolutely no idea. Same with border lines ups. You can't really predict peak times. For instance, some weekends going shopping in the States. I can get to the border at the same time on 2 different saturdays and one time it'll be packed, other times I'll go right through. My dad too when he goes to work in the morning at 5:30am, sometimes it's packed, other times...no problem. It's SO annoying. |

Oh that was at the tunnel. |

interesting...i'll probably be entering detroit around 3am, and i have nothing to lie about, so i'm predicting a smooth crossover. whats the toll rate now?
oh, and do you pass any extra tolls on the way to the airport? thanks |

No, that was after we were inside. And it was more like "Why should I let you into my country? Do you think I want to go into YOUR country? No." Good, b/c we don't want you.
The toll is abour $4 each way (give or take a quarter, depending on if you take the bridge or tunnel). And to my knowledge there are no other toll roads to the airport.
Make sure you give yourself ample time like I said...even if you're crossing at 3am, you have NO idea if it'll be backed up, or if the traffic will be bad. Better waiting at the airport than on the road. |

Tunnel and Bridge ain't .. no worries....just show them your ticket, your passport you're cool.. they're not stupid, tons of people go through that border each day to get to the airport...
I'd take the bridge... easier to get to from the 401 as it ends, easier to get on the I-94 West which takes you to Metro.... it's a fluid transition. Yeah security is a bit more tight now, they check your trunk, make you turn your car off, but usually it's all good...
Parking, I use this, $10 a day, covered parking garage, 24hr security, frequent shuttles...
And why do you need a hotel in Detroit? Just drive in, park and fly... when you get back, I guess depending on how tired you are, you may want one. But then I would suggest just get across the border, get a hotel in Windsor, maybe stay a night at the new Casino and ...
I would fly outta Detroit for sure... espeically with the exchange as it is now... AND... AND!
You have been out of the country for 7days plus, so you can bring like $700 back duty free so go do some shopping depending on when your flight returns.... There is a pretty decent mall and about 15mins, PM me and i'll get you that info if you want...
Or you can go earlier, do your shopping for your vacation in Detroit then fly... I did/do that for when I got to England, last sept, went to Detroit in the morning, bought my suit, shirt and tie and shoes there, and my luggage then hit up a walmart and bought all the tolietries for the trip to... save money that way too...
IMO...fly out of Detroit... |

good tips.
Its a 3hr drive or so to hamilton and our flight coming home lands at 11pm, plus the hotel is $120 with free parking for the duration, so i consider it a very good deal. |
