Oakenfold on the White Isle

Anyways, this line got to me:

" Q:Is all the travelling exhausting?

A: Very much so, I have cut down on a lot of the DJing and focus more on film now. DJing has not been my main priority for the last five years."

...

So Oakenfold claims that: DJing has not been my main priority for the last five years.

Think he's sincere? Or just covering up the 999,999 trainwrecks of the past decade? But anyways, just wondering if anyone would check him out in Vegas during his residency. If I were old enough I probably would - seems like a fun night.

Of course it's not - coke is.

I thought it was pretty clear that he has had no interest in music whatsoever for the last couple of years. ty sets, ty productions. Still respect him because of his work in 93-99 though .

Btw. very fitting title indeed :D .

The first thing I thought of when I read the thread title was Oakenfold standing on pure white man-made island of coke.

It is funny you guys mention the cocaine thing. I was born and bred on Oakenfold since becoming a DJ (2000). I don't think anybody will ever be able to top his 1999 essential mix world tour. He had tons of music that nobody had and he knew exactly what to do with it. Unfortunately in todays digital world I don't think it's going to be possible for a DJ to stand out as much as Paul did back in 1999. That is just my opinion.

I still admire Paul but 90% of it is based on his past. Not a big fan at all of what he's been doing lately, but he only cares about the money so I understand now why he's doing, he doesn't care too much about his DJing any more and especially his fans.. When Paul was still living in London he was very jealous of Fatboy Slim and decided he was gonna come over and try and make his mark. Just a small FYI :)

I'm not gonna sit here and tell you who told me all this stuff, but let's just say this guy was very, very close to Paul up until 2005.

They said he would often complain when having to pick out his records for his tour trips and that he didn't give a lick about his fans, only money & fame. He used a pretty smart ass word to describe his fans which I'm not going to tell you guys. It'll be the name of my next mix so you best be listenin to my ! It's a pretty weird and funny name.

Oh...yea...the cocaine. It's all true. I can't vouch for anything past 2005 but he struggled with a cocaine addiction in the past. He is of course an alcoholic, but isn't about half our society functioning alcoholics anyway? So who cares. We really shouldn't even be going down this road but I felt the needed to shine a light on Pauls' past.

And one last thing...Do not look down to people who do drugs. I wouldn't make fun of them either. I'm a medical health care professional and when I read people writing about drugs sometimes it really, really bothers me. I don't care if its a cigarette or heroin/cocaine. An addiction is a real medical disease and should be (and is) treated as such. It would be nice if our society would view it that way as well, but I guess when there is no blood and not many successful drugs to treat the disease that society doesn't view it as a true disease. Oh well.

I'm off my soap box. Enjoy the music :)

If you're looking for originality why are you even looking at an Oakenfold thread?

Makes me wonder if he's was heavy on coke when he made his essential 99 tour. I guess so, the coke must had an positive side effect the mixes were damn fine.
