get a tape deck. |
I know you can't do one, but seriously, what's the deal - FM transmitters (in my experience) sound like ass; tape deck adapters are so much cleaner! I thought for some reason it'd be the other way around...I wasted $80 on a Belkin FM transmitter, then dropped $20 on a tape deck and was so much happier. Lame.
I didn't think that CD systems w/ line-ins are that expensive anymore, I'm planning on getting one in the near future (still have just a tape deck for now). I know they used to be on the pricey side but the line-in seems pretty standard now. |

David, is this for your own car? If so, spend $150 and get a new deck. Pioneer has tons of them with all sorts of features. Especially the ones with the USB connector on the back. No need for any special ipod/line-in adapter. Just plug your mp3 player into the usb jack and your set.
edit//Here is a good one. ;) |

i was using a Kensington FM transmitter before i got my Jetta which has a tape deck. i did a lot of research and that one had the best reviews at the time. it still picked up quite a bit of static in big cities, but as long as you weren't right in the middle of a city it worked fine. i work out in the suburbs so on my drive home it would start to pick up radio signals about 2 miles away from my house which is on the north side of downtown Milwaukee.
from my experience with FM transmitters, it was much better than the FM transmitter i had for my XM radio, and much better than the Monster FM transmitter.
also, if you have a car with a removable antenna, you can take it off to decrease the amount of signals you pick up. |

| if his car can play mp3s he does not need to throw away that much money on a system. instead, burn your choons on a cd and use that. or simply buy new cds which is what i do, eventhough i only listen to three or four at most. |

| convenience of having your entire music collection on a device the size of a pack of cards > burning CDs, carrying them around with you, switching them out while you're driving, etc |

I have an ipod too and i've owned too many fm transmitters/itrips.
I don't know of course the convenience factor is there, but the depreciating aspect of a cd player must be taken into play aswell.
In a couple of more years you won't need an Itrip for most cars as they will have a built-in input, me thinks. so your cd player would've lost half of its value.
so, you guys are right. |

It doesn't, so I have 4 doors & two binders full of burnt CDs.

it's one of those behemoth factory ones with the clock/radio/cd player/AC built-in. is there some way to just add an aux. in?
I know nothing about car audio. |
