| Get an FM modulator. Its not as good as a line input but better than an FM transmitter. Only costs $20 or so |

Yeah both of those.
If you are ok with crimping about 10 wires (it is easy I swear!) buy a Pioneer DEH-P5000UB off ebay , buy a harness from the local stereo install shop (usually about $15), and install it yourself. You will need an installation kit if you have the Double Din (the large size that is like 4.5 inches tall) otherwise it would just slide in and screw it in.
With that you can just plug the USB directly into the headunit and not bother with special ipod adapters and all that bull. You can also plugin OTHER usb mp3 players and play them. :) It also supports mp3 cds and all that normal stuff. :)
edit// Here is a head unit mounting kit for $25 that adapts and adds the pocket so you actually get a small storage space. :) |

Yeah but it is limited to just the iPod and nothing else. If it had more to it, it would be different but it doesn't. And for just a hair bit more you can get better sound quality, more options with regards to upgrades, etc. The bang for your buck just doesn't exist with that is all. |

i was just suggesting those as options if he was interested in keeping the stock layout, since all the controls on the dash of the Mazda3 are integrated nicely...

personally, as nice as aftermarket stereos are, i think they look kind of ghetto in newer cars with the integrated controls on the dash.
or he could just trade his car in for a 2007 which has aux-in in the center console. |

Yea it will look ghetto, unless u swap it out for a full screen type head unit, and even then its gonna be a custom job. The typical Pioneer, etc won't work in that dash without looking like e. |

I know that is all you were suggesting, but for the price it is a waste. You are limited to so few options, the sound is quite , and you can do better. :D
And how does it look ghetto to have an aftermarket stereo instead of the gay ass space ship-styled fisher price ? The pic below looks quite clean and nice to me.
