Puppy crate/potty training

If I get recipe advice here I might as well see if I can come across some pet advice. I had moderate success in wee-wee pad training her, but then it seems she was just like ' it' and start going wherever. But for a few days, she was great. As soon as I woke up/came home from work/was going to bed, I brought her over to her little area said "go potty!" and she did what she had to do. I always praise her when she does good and tell her no/bad when she doesnt.
Any advice? What am I doing wrong/could do better?

| Crateing is cruel, I cant believe so many people think that locking a puppy up in a small birdcage is a good way to teach them anything. |

Says who? She's got more than enough room and more than enough experts say as long as you don't use it as punishment, they enjoy having their "own safe area." The crate I use is meant for dogs ~25lbs. My puppy is roughly 2lbs and will probably not grow any bigger than 5-6lbs, by then ill probably by a larger crate.
Edit: It's also the best way to housetain a 9 week old puppy.

Can't - hasn't had all her shots yet bc she is too young. That's next on the agenda though.

Rubbish. You can give the dog a safe area that they like without LOCKING THEM INTO A CAGE. [/quote]

No its not. There are far better ways. How about taking the dog outside every so often, and when the dog pisses you give him a treat. Then he'll learn that piss outside = treat. Then you dont give them a treat and it becomes habit to piss outside. |

my girlfriends dog did the same thing,
one day it would go every time on the pad thingy, and the next day it would just go where it was standing.
just give it treats every time it goes on the pad thing and take it to the pad every time it s up, takes some time but the dog will catch on. |

Have you actually read anything about owning a pet? Or how about at least the contents of this thread, where I mentioned that she is too young and lacking shots to be taken outside. I think I could provide more experts opinions that crating is a good idea than you could provide that its not.
Like I said, it's how you train the dog to interact with the crate. It's not some punishment area where I throw her when she's bad. In fact, I *never* even put her in there on her own. She either goes of her own accord or I motivate her with some treats.
Please if you're going to insist that crating is so terrible at least provide some solid arguments for such. Unless you're an expert your sheer opinion counts for slightly less than jack here. |

| Its easy to show dogs how to potty train. Simple reward system will do. When you are walking her and she does her business outside, reward her and be like "good dog" or whatever to get her exited. When she goes inside dont hit her or anything.... Just dont reward the action. |
