| i dont see whats wrong using presets if it gets u where u want? i never do it myself caus i find half of the fun to make the synth sounds myself, but for anyone who wants to finish tracks fast ofcourse presets is a good way for doing it. u might loose originality tho and u might sound like alot of other people. |

Everybody uses presets. I bet half of all the pro's ever used virus presets. Some have a really distinguished sound. If it sounds good then that's all you need. If you feel more "elite" by not using presets then by all means don't use them.
Important note if your tracks start to get good and you contact label owners: try to build proper sentences. A good start is trying to use upper and lowercase the way God invented it. |

I don't think it's always an elitist attitude that causes people to want to create their own patches (although, that certainly does apply in many cases). I just think that there's a certain self-satisfaction that comes with not only creating, but also using, your own sounds in your own compositions. I love creating new synth patches, but I'll also use straight and/or tweaked presets.
On a related note, in my experience, it often seems like those with the most elitist attitude toward using their own patches often create the most boring, unoriginal, and uninspirational sounds. Anybody else ever notice this?

Yes, absolutely. You cannot underestimate the power and value of proper communication. If you're not a good writer, it's in your best interest to have a friend or colleague with above-average or better writing skills proofread any written communication that you plan on sending to a label. No offense here, but if a label was to receive a demo submission that was written as incoherently and incomprehensibly as the OP's first post, I doubt that they would spend much time trying to decipher the message before deleting it and moving on to the next demo submission in the stack. |

Yes, those ones drive me nuts. And while we're OT, webspeak is fine 4 forums and text msgs, but not cool 4 demo submissions, u know?
(sorry, I'm not fluent in webspeak ;) ) |
