| I think it's brilliant. Most students who want to shoot up their school get guns from other places. With the teachers packing heat, at least if the student opens fire the teachers can do something about it. |

You don't get it do you? It's so easy to get guns because there is so many of them around. This just makes it even easier to get guns.
We have police for a reason you know. Why don't we just give everybody a gun, scrap the police and army, and just let people govern themselves like it's the dark ages :rolleyes:

Wanting a gun for self-defense is so barbaric. The only civilized thing to do when you encounter a violent armed criminal is to snivel and cry helplessly as you do what he says and hope the police arrive to take him away.

True, but you can still encounter a mean guy with a nice big knife, or a gang of such guys, against which an unarmed person would still be pretty much helpless without some serious training, as people are finding out in Britain.
As said before, the only civilized thing to do is cower before anyone with a weapon who wants to harm you or take your stuff. Or in the case of nations where gangs wield knives, just run like a coward and let the police handle everything! Wanting to have the means to stand up to the murderous and thieving dregs of society is pure barbarism, and Americans are such Neanderthals for wanting that. |

so you're saying that criminals are arming themselves to stay safe and that if regular citizens would stop buying shotguns, crooks wouldn't feel the need to pack heat. |

Anyone who even thinks of carrying a gun for self-defense is just trying to be a cowboy and probably has serious masculinity issues and a low IQ to boot, as all good Europeans know and typically inform Americans whenever this topic comes up.

That's a good point. Cars kill far more people in America than guns ever will. Remember, it doesn't matter that most people drive pretty safely and kill no one, just as it doesn't matter that the vast majority of people with guns use them safely and harm nobody. More cars = more automobile deaths just like more guns = more gun deaths, regardless of the intentions or actions of most of the people who buy them. Let's get on with banning cars!
