My god how long have you been going there???

Because from 2000 to 2004, you couldn't compete with a MO solo night in the Guv...

And I'm talking globally...

I was in Ibiza in the summer of 2003 and I had friends who'd told me stories about all of the other big clubs in the world..

And all of the comparisons were the same...They didn't compare...

I may not like all the tunes he's playing these days but that guy def gave me some of the best Saturday nights in my life...

Check that...THE best sat nights of my life...

you got me all wrong...I am not saying that his sets are bad at Guv...heck...I've been going there for 10 years.....all I am saying is some of the best sets I've heard from MO are when he's not at guv.....some of MOs nights at Viva were legendary for me.

I have always been a huge fan of MO....one of the firt DJs to get me going out on a regular basis and when I stopped going out for a couple of years it was missing MO sets that got me back.

This wont affect Marks TL. The fact that he is a Canadian DJ performing live on air is enough to satisfy the regulations.

You guys are all such drama queens.

Actually that's not the case at all. If that were the case any music format radio station in Canada could argue that the music was being played by a Canadian DJ.

I went to school for broadcasting, and while it's been a few years i do remember that by definition, Canadian content means that the music must have 2 or the following... music must be composed by a Canadian, music or lyrics performed by a Canadian, must be produced in Canada or the vocals must be performed by a Canadian.

I've played on the radio and had mixes played on the radio and was required to have a certain amount of Canadian content.

I know for a fact that the DJs are required to play a certain amount of Canadian music. I was told by more than one GUV DJ. If you'd like I will call the club and reconfirm this for you. lol

Though I will say that I'm not entirely positive that Mark is given a track list that he has to work from. I only assumed that as I've been given one by a radio station before and I've been there during the live to air and seen him consulting a sheet and some obvious communication going on between him and the Z103 people.

it has nothing to do with MAPL. Its a live performance by a canadian artist. Try reading the regs.

it's not a live performance. he's playing pre-recorded music.

That's disappointing. This is what I was scared of happening when Z started to do their live to airs from guv. I was hoping it'd be a night from Guv on Z103.5 but instead it's a night from Guv with Z music on Z103.5

The 35% cancon rule ends at midnight from what I remember

nope.

35% of the weeks programing must be canadian. and during peak day hours they must also have 35% canadian.

Overnight Canadian Content

119. The current Canadian content regulations relate only to the broadcast day, that being the time period between 6:00 a.m. to midnight, Sunday to Saturday.

i see.. well it has been a about 8 years since i studied that . lol

but regardless, at Guv they do require them to have some Canadian content. Could just be station policy... I heard from someone that works there that 102.1 has a policy like that.

if you read the other 4 sections after that you'll see that the CRTC while it doesn't mandate it, it does encourage that broadcasters meet the day time requirement overnight, and the recording industry wanted it as well. I'm sure most mainstream stations stick somewhat close to anyways just to stay in the good books of the CRTC.

what are the hours of the live to air anyways?

Only been 4 years since I studied all the regs ;) The only reason I remember this rule is because I had a show on the college's FM station from midnight-2am and didn't have to play any cancon.

The live-to-air @ guv is from 10-2 (first hour in orange room, 2nd hour in drink/skybar, 3rd/4th hour in main room)

So legally the first two rooms have to play cancon and MO has free reign since he doesn't go on-air till midnight. I wouldn't be surprised if Z had a station policy like The Edge as it's definitely a good idea to be in CRTC's good books when you're up for a new license.
