When i have the money, not even a couple hundred bucks, the ACLU is at the top of my list. Anything to piss off the radical right.

Liberalism for me means advocating changes in policy which are progressive for society. When dealing with a problem such as racial or class inequality, don't automatically assume all liberals want a Chavez-like socialist government. Saying so just outlines your biased view of liberals. Liberals are overwhelmingly not communists or radical socialists. I don't call Rush Limbaugh a damned fascist do I? How I, as a liberal would deal with inequality is simply by providing an equal opportunity for all to prosper. We have laws against racial discrimination, we have laws protecting unions, etc. etc. It was liberals who lead the civil rights movement against racist conservatives in the south.

Socialism has been turned into a dirty word by the Republicans. All things socialist are not bad. Public schools, social security, state universities can all be called socialist, but that does not mean they are bad!

Cap made the point that liberals tend to be against free market economics. To be honest, I think the vast majority of liberals very much believe in free market economics, but with limits! History has shown time and again that a free market left unchecked will destroy itself. I very much believe in the virtues of a free market, but I also believe in a free market which has regulatory oversight. We live in a free republic, but we still have traffic laws and laws protecting society as a whole against criminals. The same principle should apply to the free market.

It was liberals who founded this country, liberals who brought us out of the Great Depression, liberals who took the fight to fascist Europe, liberals who lead the Civil Right Movement, and it will be liberals who get us out this god-awful mess that is Iraq, and financial crisis.

:haha: :haha:

I think all loony liberals have the innate ability to become comedians.

I could say the same thing about you: the fact that you listen to the other side and believe what you do speaks volumes about who you are. You're responses are always so negative and pessimistic about this country, and I think it's because you've allowed yourself to be conditioned to the main stream media's doom and gloom bull. I don't mean to sound like a conspiracy theory, but their reporting is slanted that way and they want us to feel that way because what's bad for America is good for the Democrats right now. It's like when that 7 year old girl asked Obama why he's running for president and he said because America is no longer what it once was and he doesn't want that future for his children. And you think this way too.

I think you assume I get most of my information from major media outlets, which I don't, at all. I pull my information from a variety of sources mostly publications like The New Yorker, Foreign Affairs, Harpers, etc. I'm not gonna sit here and make a laundry list of what I feel could be better in the country, suffice to say they rarely talk about it in the main stream media. One easy examples is the disastrous state of a lot of our infrastructure.

Don't you see the hypocracy? He wouldn't want that life for his kids? LOL. Before Obama decided to run for president his wife was pulling down 300 grand working in PR at a hospital. He had written two books that got him out of debt. What is wrong with his life? What is wrong with the opportunities in this country that had been made available to him, and that are available to you, that you wouldn't want for that girl that asked the question? What's so bad about his life that he wouldn't want his kids living it? He's running for president of the United States, and he's got to run down the country to a 7 year old. That's just how you negative leftists think and it's sad. He should have said because he loves the country and that it's the greatest place on earth.... that we've got challenges, but he wants to help the country through it, end of story.

America is not the greatest place on earth. It's a great place, but it isn't the greatest.

If I remember correctly, once you're 25, you're past the draft age. Plus you'll have your degree pretty soon, you're one of the last demographics they're going to be looking at. The first assumption (which applies to a lot of people but isn't always true), is that scientist and engineers are scrawny dorky people who aren't good with anything else other than hard science and building stuff. So that generalization will work in your favour, even though you're a tough (and sometimes vicious lol) guy.

Dismissing people as loony without arguing any points is pretty much the most convenient way out.

It's also a good way to make them feel like participating in discussion or debate is pointless and a complete waste of time.

I don't understand peoples' notions that because people are rich, they should always be forced to pay higher percentages. What does that do for the poor and middle class people, other than make them feel good to see the rich getting taken? Dice it up all you want man... the fact is the top 1% of earners pay 40% of the taxes, and the top 10% pay 71% of them. The richest top percentage has increasingly been paying a bigger and bigger share. They are about 15% of the nations total income, and have gone from paying 25% of the taxes to 71% in 18 years. Having tax breaks for them are necessary because without it, the rich will not invest their money which will stagnate the economy and stunt job creation.

dude, Reganomics didn't work the first time and they aren't working now. This trickle down thing is so old hat.

DJ Shibby
Of course he is.

The media will keep them dead even, and every race for the rest of time, on the brink of the edge.

Just as McCain is up five points, they'll flip the game and claim Obama is in the lead.

It's bells and whistles, and while it may affect some people, the real question will come down anyway to whether those damn electronic voting machines are fixed to leave a paper trail or not. Selling people to actually give a about politics is hard work, but if you're making billions from advertisement revenue then you'd find a way.

This 50/50% propaganda is completely media manufactured.

America must be quite different in Charlotte, NC that you don't think anything could possibly be better. Our infrastructure is crumbling, our civil liberties are under siege, our economy is hiccuping, we're drifting away from environmental sustainability, and our foreign policy is putting our security at risk. I'd say Barack is right on the money when he has the foresight to look beyond his wife's paycheck to realize we're headed in the wrong direction here.

Life is about more than personal wealth, and I think that's something you corporate republicans haven't realized.

I don't want that future for my children either.
