Oh my god!!!!! I've been into EDM since about five years ago, been to a few shows, and owned many a mix cd. But i just picked this one up today. Never had heard it before. I'm having eargasmic convulsions over this!!!!!!!:D

I wonder how many topics have been started about this one.

I do really like NE1, though. It's the one I listen to most out of all the Northern Exposure CDs. All the tracks on it still sound so good even today, not really dated at all.

Haven't listened to it in a loooong time. Thanks for reminding me. :)

Btw, I discovered Banco De Gaia thanks to NE.

I'm not sure, but there's two versions of Vol. 1, a North and South though one of them was a limited only UK release.

Whichever one I have, I go  when "Future Sound Of London - Cascade" comes in. Sends shivers down my spin, so lovely.

I was actually listening to Northern Exposure earlier at work today and hadn't listened to it in awhile. When God Within - Raincry starts to come in, that's when the mix really starts to take off imo.

I might be in the minority because I prefer the second disc. The first one has all the classics because it's the only one most Americans have heard, but the second disc is more interesting to me. It sounds like the moment when progressive trance really snapped into place, and predicted that deep and dark sound Diggers would adopt.

Whichever disc you prefer, you have to appreciate the project though, because it was such a total departure from what Sasha and Digweed were doing- style, tempo, programming- everything. Almost none of the records they used were new in 1996- they really went digging for great records. It had nothing to do with anything that was happening in 1996; it was Sasha and Digweed deliberately building something that would stand the test of time, something of itself, unique, timeless.

That the latter excursions would basically become up-front progressive trance tracklists is slightly dissapointing.

This is a great compilation, but I just popped in Sasha's GU 3 San Francisco and that one puts me in a good place =)

Agreed about the 2nd disc, very underrated.

Northern Exposure Volume 2: East Coast ftw imo.

I feel lucky to own the original MOS two-disc edition of Northern Exposure 1 (&2 ;) ) They'll never stray far from my music library.

PS - they were expensive back then, too (£16-ish each).
