Hockey mom, Husband championship snow mobile racer.
5th speech i've heard her saying that.

Trying to be objective but her voice is grinding on my brain for some reason.

I cant imagine her giving a State of the Union adress if something happened. lordy

She is coming out swinging though in this speech. She is asking for the fight and I think she might get more than she bargained for.

She is getting in some great zingers though

Andrew Sullivan: "However admirable it is to be a mayor, is it really necessary to drip contempt for people who work as community organizers? It seems to me that Palin doesn't quite have the stature to be putting down someone who has won millions of people's votes. This is a much more partisan speech than I was expecting."

The mockery goes a long way - I love how GOP delegates found it endearing to put down someone who, at 24 years old, made an early career of living on $13,000 and organizing people to advocate for affordable housing and utilities.

I don't know man... that line was a response to the put down of her being a mayor of a small town. Contempt for everything she has done in her life has been dripped all over here, and she is responding as she should.

Responding to whom exactly?

Obama hasn't said a word about her. As far as I know, there aren't any community organizers or social workers on record spreading contempt about everything she has done with her life.

The Republicans effectively put down the worthiness of a career dedicated to serving others at extreme sacrifice of one's own well-being. But good job diverting the criticism to an unknown foe.

Furthermore:

Andrew Sullivan (who is gay): "The one moment that stays with me tonight, oddly enough, was not Palin's speech. It was a line from Giuliani, a New York mayor with a young second third wife and gay friends, mocking a "cosmopolitan" who was brought up by a single mother. It was that Barack Obama's rise could "only happen in America." And it was designed to mock him, the first African-American candidate for the presidency of the United States.

I won't forget that."

That's the messaging the GOP conveyed tonight. Mocking the first African-American candidate for President as "too cosmopolitan" and a mere "community organizer" who has no responsibility (at the age of 24).

Kind of cute for them to compare what Palin was doing at 38 with what Obama was doing straight out of college though. Seems like an honorable parallel for a campaign pledging to run clean and free of Rovian tactics.

Very, very true.

Obama even praised Jon McCain; and, in turn, they all over Obama--not a tinge of praise.

I'm not saying it's a big deal (or perhaps it is?); just, c'mon, is that all they have to say? Because, throughout the whole speech, I was waiting for the policies to be brought forth, and, what do I get?, just a bunch of inane name-calling and the introductions to people who don't matter in the campaign;

and how great Alaska is, and how the US can basically depend on Alaska because they have "lots of it [oil and gas]" Drill, baby, Drill! (Is that what they were saying?) Might as well have been Sieg Heil! Sieg Heil! (haha, that's a joke, just so you know.)
R.j.
Way I see it, these were the messages conveyed through each side:
Democrats: How we're going to better America.
GOP: Why the other party won't be good for America, semi-cheap-shots included.
Lebezniatnikov
The Democrats finally got around to criticizing McCain on the merits of his policy and his record.

The Republicans pounced on the opportunity to mock Obama's character and his entree into public service.

Comparing her service to Obama's was disingenuous for a variety of reasons, but not least of which because her first job was as an intern at an Alaskan news station. You want to compare that period of your life to Obama or Biden, Sarah? Go right ahead.

He doesn't have to say it himself, he has the backing of the attack dog media to do that for him and he knows it. And wow, that sounds so noble and lofty of Obama. Yeah he definitely wasn't using it as a springboard for his political career. Yeah he went to Columbia and Harvard to work as a selfless community organizer:rolleyes:

Stop talking about things you don't know anything about.

He hadn't gone to Harvard, didn't have a law degree, and had turned down jobs on Wall Street to make $13,000 doing social work in one of the poorest, most dangerous neighborhoods in the US... and you're going to belittle that as a political maneuver???

I used to think you were intelligent dude, but you just spout out of your ass.
