By not real music i mean no melody, not being musical (ie no cords, progression, sound interaction).

Any organization of sounds can be considered music, minimal typically does not have melody which I relate to emotion and thus what I dont not like about it.

The term "music" and what it actually is is completely subjective to being with. Your example makes a good point but stretches beyond what my comment is actually meant to imply.

See, I knew you were better than that ;)

It's definitely a more abstract kind of music, no doubt about it, and I totally would be shocked if you started playing anything remotely minimal, lol.

I love the crowd

I love the vibe

I love how the parties and festivals annoy the out of my lover! :stongue:

I love how there are no vocals - poppy stuff.

It's not for everyone and I can dig that :) Feels more about the love of the music than going to see whoever is z0mg #12345678910.

This is more for Techno in general and not the minimal of minimalist.

most of the ppl here posting are talking about techno parties, not minimal parties... but to stay ontopic:

i love how the ppl dance like supernumeraries in a george a. romero flick...

Sometimes a little to depressing, but with the right dj.....youre going to have a sick ass time. I also love minimal shows because it seems like every time i go to one, there are so many dope ass females around. Not sure why, but they love to shake their asses to minimal.

Trance, cmon need i say more. Would much rather trance than most genre's however some ill progressive does me better than both.

Mostly I love the bass :happy2:

Love the attention to detail involved.

Love the intellectual challenge of appreciating/understanding/making sense of tracks that don't consist of neatly packaged melodies, perfect harmonies, bass lines that drop exactly when I expect them to, or vocals that make me *tear*:( .

I like that it often surprises me. Some of the particularly talented producers (and not just techno producers) are able to take sounds that alone would sound harsh or simply incomprehensible by themselves and mesh them together along with a solid bass line to create tracks that are actually beautiful. This is particularly inspiring me.

As some of you have pointed out, the most creative and LEAST 'safe' sounding productions are usually straight techno and not minimal, but minimal does have its fair share of solid producers/productions.

I suppose what I like most is that minimal techno, and really techno in general constantly pushes the boundaries of my ability to appreciate music and moreover constantly has me re-defining my sense of what 'music' is.

I definitely understand people who can't appreciate minimal though. In liking it so much its only fair that I can acknowledge its deficits. Melody, vocals, and lyrics do evoke emotion and that's often completely excluded from minimal or else kept to a uh... minimum :P. On top of this, a lot of it is really dark. Combined with low bmp and unconventional 'creepy' / glitchy vocals and effects I can understand why it could be a bit of a downer, and even depressing/too serious to some. Poorly produced minimal can also be boring as , even to minimal heads... of course that's all a matter of opinion.

I actually have a good amount of minimal style tracks that I love and would defiantly play them if I had the chance. Most of my recent gigs have been with progressive/trance acts so I may sneak one in early on in the night but not play a sets worth.
